Closure from Friday 5th May 2023 – Saturday 3rd June

Emergency repair works to lock gates
Waterways Ireland wishes to inform Masters of Vessels and waterway users that Lock 3, Grand Canal will be closed from Friday 5th May 2023 until Saturday 3rd June 2023 to facilitate emergency repair works to the lock gates.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this may cause and thanks its customers for their co-operation in relation to this matter.

Waterways Ireland möchte die Schiffsführer und Nutzer der Wasserstraße darüber informieren, dass die Schleuse 3 des Grand Canal von Freitag, den 5. Mai 2023, bis Samstag, den 3. Juni 2023, geschlossen wird, um Notreparaturarbeiten an den Schleusentoren durchzuführen.
Waterways Ireland bedauert jegliche Unannehmlichkeiten, die dadurch entstehen können und dankt seinen Kunden für ihre Kooperation in dieser Angelegenheit.

Grand Canal, 12th lock to 13th lock

Lowered water level

From Fri 3rd March 2023 for two weeks

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise Masters of Vessels and users of the Grand Canal that construction of the greenway is ongoing.
The water level on the Grand Canal on the 12th Level between Lock 12 Lucan Road and Lock 13 Ardclough from Friday 3rd March for a period of 2 weeks. The water is to be lowered by 200mm to accommodate stone works under Aylmer’s Bridge, Kearneystown as part of the ongoing Kildare County Council Phase 1 Greenway works and follows on from Marine Notice 104 of 2022.
Waterways Ireland thanks Master of Vessels and canal users for their understanding in relation to this matter.

Ab Fr 3. März 2023 für zwei Wochen
Waterways Ireland möchte die Schiffsführer und Benutzer des Grand Canal darauf hinweisen, dass die Bauarbeiten für den Greenway fortgesetzt werden.
Der Wasserstand auf dem Grand Canal auf der 12. Ebene zwischen Schleuse 12 Lucan Road und Schleuse 13 Ardclough wird ab Freitag, dem 3. März, für einen Zeitraum von zwei Wochen abgesenkt. Der Wasserstand soll um 200 mm gesenkt werden, um Steinarbeiten unter der Aylmer’s Bridge, Kearneystown, im Rahmen der laufenden Phase 1 der Greenway-Arbeiten des Kildare County Council durchzuführen, und folgt auf die Marine Notice 104 von 2022.
Waterways Ireland dankt den Schiffsführern und Kanalbenutzern für ihr Verständnis in dieser Angelegenheit.

Greenway development

Lowering of water levels from Lock 13 Ardclough to Lock 14 Devonshire, From Mon 20th Feb 2023 for 6 weeks

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise Masters of Vessels and users of the Grand Canal that construction of the greenway is ongoing as previously notified in Marine Notice 104 of 2022.
Water levels on the Grand canal will be lowered by 400mm between lock 13 Ardclough and lock 14 Devonshire from Monday 20th February 2023 for a period of 6 weeks. The water level is being lowered to accommodate greenway works under Henry bridge, Ponsonby bridge and Devonshire bridge.
Further Marine Notices will be issued in due course to provide updates as the works progress.

Absenkung des Wasserstandes von Schleuse 13 Ardclough bis Schleuse 14 Devonshire,
ab Montag, 20. Februar 2023 für 6 Wochen
Waterways Ireland möchte die Schiffsführer und Benutzer des Grand Canal darauf hinweisen, dass die Bauarbeiten für den Greenway weitergehen, wie bereits in der Marine Notice 104 von 2022 angekündigt.
Der Wasserstand des Grand Canal wird ab Montag, dem 20. Februar 2023, für einen Zeitraum von 6 Wochen zwischen Schleuse 13 Ardclough und Schleuse 14 Devonshire um 400 mm abgesenkt. Der Wasserstand wird abgesenkt, um Arbeiten an der Grünanlage unter der Henry-Brücke, der Ponsonby-Brücke und der Devonshire-Brücke durchzuführen.
Zu gegebener Zeit werden weitere Marine Notices herausgegeben, um über den Fortgang der Arbeiten zu informieren.

Restoration of the Four Pots Overflow Structure, Until 28 Feb 2023

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise users of the Grand Canal Greenway that the greenway section from Digby Bridge to Sallins will be closed until 28 Feb 2023 in order to facilitate the restoration of the Four Pots Overflow Structure.

Waterways Ireland möchte die Nutzer des Grand Canal Greenway darauf hinweisen, dass der Abschnitt von Digby Bridge bis Sallins bis zum 28. Februar 2023 gesperrt ist, um die Restaurierung des Four Pots Überlaufbauwerks zu ermöglichen.
Waterways Ireland dankt seinen Kunden für ihr Verständnis in dieser Angelegenheit.

The Four Pots is a unique overflow structure located alongside the Grand Canal towpath between the Leinster Aqueduct and Digby Bridge. No longer in use, this ingenious overflow system has four circular channels of varying depth that helped reduce the water pressure and volume rate before discharge from the canal back to the River Liffey through a series of channels. All built heritage features throughout our waterways have been documented by Waterways Ireland and can be accessed.
Die Four Pots sind ein einzigartiges Überlaufbauwerk, das sich entlang des Treidelpfades des Grand Canal zwischen dem Leinster Aqueduct und der Digby Bridge befindet. Dieses ausgeklügelte Überlaufsystem mit vier kreisförmigen Kanälen unterschiedlicher Tiefe, das nicht mehr in Betrieb ist, trug dazu bei, den Wasserdruck und die Wassermenge zu verringern, bevor es über eine Reihe von Kanälen wieder in den Fluss Liffey abgelassen wurde. Alle Baudenkmäler entlang unserer Wasserstraßen wurden von Waterways Ireland dokumentiert und können eingesehen werden.

Reduction of water levels for essential bank repair works.
28th November to 2nd December 2022

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels in Belle Harbour and all masters of vessels and users of the Grand Canal Barrow Line that the water levels in the canal between the 24th Lock Ballykelly and the 25th Lock Monasterevin will be reduced by approximately 600mm for essential bank repair works. Reduction of levels will commence at 9am on 28th November.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused to its customers by these maintenance works.

Absenkung des Wasserstands für notwendige Reparaturarbeiten am Ufer
28. November bis 2. Dezember 2022
Waterways Ireland möchte die Kapitäne von Schiffen in Belle Harbour sowie alle Kapitäne von Schiffen und Benutzer des Grand Canal Barrow Line darauf hinweisen, dass der Wasserstand des Kanals zwischen der 24. Schleuse Ballykelly und der 25. Schleuse Monasterevin wegen notwendiger Reparaturarbeiten an den Ufern um etwa 600 mm gesenkt wird. Die Absenkung der Pegelstände beginnt am 28. November um 9 Uhr morgens.
Waterways Ireland bedauert die Unannehmlichkeiten, die seinen Kunden durch diese Wartungsarbeiten entstehen.
