Royal Canal,

McLoughlins Bridge,

Bridge Works Adjacent to 17th Lock

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise that work to McLouglins Bridge, 17th Lock, will be undertaken from now until January 2017 for repair and upgrade of the bridge. Scaffolding will be erected over the channel, and passage will not be possible until works are completed, this section of the navigation will remain closed.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this closure may cause its users and thanks its customers for their cooperation in this matter.

Slalom Course active

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the whitewater slalom course at Lock 2, Ballyconnell, will be active from 0900hrs until 1600hrs tomorrow Sat 19 and Sun 20 Nov.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in the vicinity of canoes which can be easily capsized because of their low freeboard.

Masters are requested to note the directions of safety craft marshalling the event in the interest of marine safety.

Head of the Shannon Time Trial Rowing Race

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the above event will take place on Sat 3 Dec, from 1000hrs until 1600hrs, over the course outlined below. The course will be active throughout the day.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in the vicinity of rowing craft which can be easily capsized because of their low freeboard.
Masters are requested to note the directions of safety craft marshalling the event in the interest of marine safety.

Lock 18

Intended Closure for Repair and Upgrade

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the 18th Lock of the Grand Canal will be closed to navigation from next Wednesday 16th November 2016 until January 2017. The lock area will be dewatered for repair and upgrade works during this period.

Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this may cause and thanks its customers for their cooperation in this matter.

Archaeological Survey

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that an underwater archaeological survey will be carried out in the vicinity of the town bridge between the 14th and 18th of Nov commencing at 09:00 hrs and finishing at 17:00 each day. Divers will be operating from an 8m RIB and flying the International Code Flag „A“ ( Blue with white swallow tail)    to indicate that divers are in the vicinity. Channel 16 Marine vhf will be monitored.
Masters are requested to approach the bridge keeping a sharp lookout , at slow speed and with minimum wash.
