Navigation Closure
Quest Lough Derg event, Fri 08 and Sat 09 September 2023
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise Masters of Vessels and users of the Shannon Navigation that the Quest Lough Derg event takes place around Killaloe Co Clare and Ballina Co Tipperary on Saturday 09 September 2023.
The Shannon Navigation will be closed from 12pm on Friday 8th to 7pm on Saturday 9th September 2023. A floating pontoon will be placed across the Shannon Navigation approx. 100 metres upstream of Killaloe bridge. The pontoon will be lit during the hours of darkness and safety boats will be in the area while the pontoon is in place. No vessel or craft should come within 50 metres of the pontoon while it is in position.
The slipway at Ballina will be closed while the pontoon is being constructed. Construction will take place from Tuesday 5th September to Friday 8th September and the pontoon will be dismantled on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September 2023.
There will be restricted access to the Waterways Ireland jetties and pump out facility in Killaloe from 3pm on Friday 8th to 7pm on Saturday 9th September 2023. Mooring space will be available upstream of the pump out facility.
The flow gates on the Killaloe Canal will be manned from 6am to 7.45am on Saturday 9th September 2023 to facilitate anglers and smaller vessels that wish to proceed upstream or downstream on Saturday morning while the pontoon is in place.
Approx 1500 athletes will move along the Waterways Ireland jetties and cross the flow gates walkway in the morning and will return by the same route in the afternoon of Sat 9th September 2023. Care should be taken when using the jetties and flow gate walkway as there will be significant pedestrian traffic in these areas.
The kayaking element of Quest lough Derg will take place at Twomilegate Co Clare.
Masters are requested to take heed of advice and directions from safety craft monitoring the event and to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash in the vicinity of Twomilegate and Killaloe during the event.

Schließung der Schifffahrt, Quest Lough Derg Veranstaltung, Fr 08. und Sa 09. September 2023
Waterways Ireland möchte die Schiffsführer und Benutzer der Shannon Navigation darauf hinweisen, dass am Samstag, den 09. September 2023, in der Nähe von Killaloe (Co. Clare) und Ballina (Co. Tipperary) die Veranstaltung Quest Lough Derg stattfindet.
Die Shannon Navigation wird von Freitag, den 8. September 2023, 12 Uhr, bis Samstag, den 9. September 2023, 19 Uhr, geschlossen sein. Ein schwimmender Ponton wird ca. 100 Meter stromaufwärts der Killaloe-Brücke über die Shannon Navigation gelegt. Der Ponton wird während der Dunkelheit beleuchtet sein und Sicherheitsboote werden in dem Gebiet unterwegs sein, während der Ponton an seinem Platz ist. Solange der Ponton in Position ist, darf sich kein Schiff oder Fahrzeug dem Ponton auf weniger als 50 Meter nähern.
Die Slipanlage in Ballina wird während des Baus des Pontons geschlossen. Die Bauarbeiten dauern von Dienstag, 5. September, bis Freitag, 8. September, und der Ponton wird am Samstag, 9. und Sonntag, 10. September 2023, abgebaut.
Der Zugang zu den Anlegestellen und der Pumpanlage von Waterways Ireland in Killaloe wird von Freitag, den 8. September 2023, 15 Uhr, bis Samstag, den 9. September 2023, 19 Uhr, eingeschränkt sein. Anlegeplätze werden stromaufwärts der Auspumpanlage zur Verfügung stehen.
Die Schleusen am Killaloe-Kanal werden am Samstag, dem 9. September 2023, von 6 bis 7.45 Uhr besetzt sein, um Anglern und kleineren Schiffen, die am Samstagmorgen stromaufwärts oder stromabwärts fahren möchten, die Fahrt zu erleichtern, während der Ponton aufgebaut ist.
Ungefähr 1500 Sportler werden sich am Morgen entlang der Stege von Waterways Ireland bewegen und den Laufsteg der Fließtore überqueren und am Nachmittag des 9. September 2023 auf demselben Weg zurückkehren. Bei der Benutzung der Anlegestellen und des Fließtorstegs ist Vorsicht geboten, da es in diesen Bereichen viel Fußgängerverkehr geben wird.
Das Kajak-Element von Quest lough Derg wird in Twomilegate, Co Clare, stattfinden.
Die Bootsführer werden gebeten, die Ratschläge und Anweisungen der Sicherheits-fahrzeuge, die die Veranstaltung überwachen, zu befolgen und während der Veranstaltung in der Nähe von Twomilegate und Killaloe mit langsamer Geschwindigkeit und möglichst wenig Wasser zu fahren.
