Construction of pedestrian and cycleway bridge
Commencing on 03 May 2022
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters of vessels and waterways users that the construction of the Athlone pedestrian and cycleway bridge will commence on 03 May 2022. The pedestrian and cycleway bridge will be built approx. 50 metres upstream of Athlone town bridge.
The navigation channel in the vicinity of the in-water works will be restricted to a width of 15 metres from 03 May 2022. Both sides of the navigation channel will be buoyed with temporary makers. Large barges, workboats and other equipment will be operating in the navigation from Wansboro’s field (upstream of the Railway Bridge) to Athlone town bridge.
Masters of vessels are advised to proceed with additional caution in the vicinity of the works and to follow the instructions of safety craft and personnel in the area.
Phase 1 of the project commencing on 03 May 2022 involves the installation of a cofferdam which will take approx. 4 weeks to complete. Details of further phases will be advised in due course.

Bau einer Fußgänger- und Radwegbrücke; Baubeginn am 03. Mai 2022
Waterways Ireland möchte alle Schiffskapitäne und Wasserstraßennutzer darauf hinweisen, dass am 3. Mai 2022 mit dem Bau der Fußgänger- und Radwegbrücke in Athlone begonnen wird. Die Fußgänger- und Radwegbrücke wird ca. 50 Meter stromaufwärts der Athlone Stadtbrücke gebaut.
Die Fahrrinne in der Nähe der Bauarbeiten wird ab dem 03. Mai 2022 auf eine Breite von 15 Metern beschränkt. Beide Seiten der Fahrrinne werden mit provisorischen Bojen versehen. Große Lastkähne, Arbeitsboote und andere Ausrüstungen werden in der Fahrrinne von Wansboro’s Field (stromaufwärts der Eisenbahnbrücke) bis zur Athlone Town Bridge verkehren.
Die Kapitäne von Schiffen werden gebeten, in der Nähe der Arbeiten besonders vorsichtig zu fahren und den Anweisungen der Sicherheits-fahrzeuge und des Personals in diesem Gebiet Folge zu leisten.
Phase 1 des Projekts, die am 03. Mai 2022 beginnt, umfasst die Errichtung eines Fangedamms, die ca. 4 Wochen in Anspruch nehmen wird. Einzelheiten zu den weiteren Phasen werden zu gegebener Zeit bekannt gegeben.
