Shannon-Erne Waterway

Shannon-Erne Waterway – Closed Lock 9 to Lock 16

Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels and users of the Blueway that a vehicle strike has brought down a telecoms pole and wires into Lock 12 on the Shannon–Erne Waterway. As a result, navigation is blocked and, for safety reasons, the section between Lock 9 and Lock 16 is closed until further notice.
Impacts on Navigation:

• • • Southbound passage from the Erne System is currently closed below / south of Lough Scur.
    • Northbound passage from the Shannon System is currently closed above / north of Leitrim.
    • The Blueway in the vicinity of Lock 12 is also closed, as wires are lying across the route and present a serious hazard.

Additional Closures / Cautionary Warnings:

• • • Marine Notice No. 86 of 2025: Shannon Navigation / Lough Allen: Drumshanbo Lock and access to Lough Allen are closed from 19 August to 25 September 2025.
      Update to Marine Notice No. 71 of 2025 – Shannon Navigation – Cautionary Warning: Low water levels remain on the summit level between Lock 9 and Lough Scur.
    • Waterways Ireland recognises that this closure will cause significant disruption to boaters, hire boat operators, and Blueway users, particularly for those returning hire vessels or planning onward passage.

Our staff have been on site since early Sunday to secure the area, manage vessel traffic, and notify waterway users. We are liaising with Eircom to ensure an urgent response and will work to reopen this important section of the navigation at the earliest possible opportunity.

SEW – Lock 9 bis Lock 16 gesperrt, Ausgestellt: 17. August 2025
Waterways Ireland weist Schiffsführer und Nutzer der Blueway darauf hin, dass durch einen Fahrzeugaufprall ein Telekommunikationsmast und ein Kabel an Lock 12 der Shannon-Erne-Wasserstraße umgestürzt sind. Dadurch ist die Navigation blockiert und aus Sicherheitsgründen ist der Abschnitt zwischen Lock 9 und Lock 16 bis auf Weiteres gesperrt.
Auswirkungen auf die Navigation:

• • • Die südliche Passage vom Erne-System ist derzeit unterhalb/südlich von Lough Scur gesperrt.
    • Die nördliche Passage vom Shannon-System ist derzeit oberhalb/nördlich von Leitrim gesperrt.
    • Der Blueway in der Nähe von Lock 12 ist ebenfalls gesperrt, da Drähte über der Route liegen und eine ernsthafte Gefahr darstellen.

Weitere Sperrungen/Warnungen:

• • • Marine Notice Nr. 86 von 2025: Shannon Navigation/Lough Allen: Drumshanbo Lock und der Zugang zu Lough Allen sind vom 19. August bis zum 25. September 2025 gesperrt.
    • Aktualisierung der „Marine Notice No. 71 of 2025 – Shannon Navigation – Cautionary Warning”: Zwischen Lock 9 und Lough Scur herrscht weiterhin niedriger Wasserstand.

Waterways Ireland ist sich bewusst, dass diese Sperrung erhebliche Beeinträchtigungen für Bootsfahrer, Vermieter von Mietbooten und Nutzer des Blueway mit sich bringt, insbesondere für diejenigen, die Mietboote zurückgeben oder eine Weiterfahrt planen.
Unsere Mitarbeiter sind seit Sonntagmorgen vor Ort, um das Gebiet zu sichern, den Schiffsverkehr zu regeln und die Nutzer der Wasserstraße zu informieren. Wir stehen in Kontakt mit Eircom, um eine schnelle Reaktion zu gewährleisten, und werden daran arbeiten, diesen wichtigen Abschnitt der Navigation so schnell wie möglich wieder zu öffnen.
