Low Water Levels on upstream Approach to Victoria Lock
Cautionary Warning
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that low water levels exist on the upstream approach to Victoria Lock.
This localised low water level is caused when all sluices are in the open position at Meelick weir which creates a draw-down of water levels in the area.
Masters of vessels are advised to navigate with additional caution, remain within the navigation and observe the 5km speed limit at all times.
Shannon Navigatin Warnhinweis Niedriger Wasserstand bei der stromaufwärts gelegenen Annäherung an die Victoria-Schleuse Waterways Ireland möchte Kapitäne und Schiffseigner darauf hinweisen, dass an der stromaufwärts gelegenen Zufahrt zur Victoria-Schleuse ein niedriger Wasserstand herrscht. Dieser örtlich begrenzte niedrige Wasserstand wird verursacht, wenn alle Schleusen am Meelick-Wehr geöffnet sind, was zu einem Absinken des Wasserstands in diesem Gebiet führt. Den Schiffsführern wird empfohlen, mit zusätzlicher Vorsicht zu navigieren, innerhalb der Fahrrinne zu bleiben und die Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung von 5 km jederzeit einzuhalten.
Diving Operations – 26 August to 03 September 2024
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise Masters of Vessels and users of the Shannon Navigation that archaeological diving operations will be taking place at Ballymacegan Island and in a number of locations between Portumna Bridge and Ballymacegan Island from 26th August to 3rd September 2024.
The principal area of operations will be the River Shannon between Ballymacegan Island Townland. Co. Tipperary and Tiernascragh Townland, Co. Galway.
Additional areas where diving will take place will be
Area 1: south of Hayes’ Island, within back channel;
Area 2: north and south of entrance to Madden’s Marina, on Tipperary side;
Area 3: north of Long Island, between Ballymacegan, Co. Tipperary and Cappagh, Co. Galway.
All masters and users of the Shannon Navigation are asked to pay heed to the blue and white dive flag that will be displayed indicating diving operations and to give the dive vessels and dive area a wide berth.
It should also be noted that in the Underwater Heritage Order “restricted area” at Ballymacegan Island, masters and users of the waterway should not drop anchor as it could pose a damage threat to this sensitive archaeological area.

Portumna, Ballymacegan Island, Taucherarbeiten – 26. August bis 03. September 2024 Waterways Ireland möchte die Schiffsführer und Benutzer der Shannon Navigation darauf hinweisen, dass vom 26. August bis zum 3. September 2024 archäologische Taucharbeiten bei Ballymacegan Island und an mehreren Stellen zwischen der Portumna Bridge und Ballymacegan Island stattfinden werden. Das Hauptarbeitsgebiet wird der Fluss Shannon zwischen Ballymacegan Island Townland. Co. Tipperary und Tiernascragh Townland, Co. Galway. Weitere Gebiete, in denen getaucht werden soll, sind
Gebiet 1: südlich von Hayes‘ Island, im Back Channel;
Gebiet 2: nördlich und südlich der Einfahrt zur Madden’s Marina, auf der Tipperary-Seite;
Gebiet 3: nördlich von Long Island, zwischen Ballymacegan, Co. Tipperary und Cappagh, Co. Galway.
Alle Kapitäne und Benutzer der Shannon Navigation werden gebeten, die blau-weiße Tauchflagge zu beachten, die den Tauchbetrieb anzeigt, und den Tauchschiffen und dem Tauchgebiet einen großen Bogen zu machen. Es sollte auch beachtet werden, dass die Kapitäne und Benutzer der Wasserstraße im „Sperrgebiet“ der Underwater Heritage Order bei Ballymacegan Island keinen Anker werfen sollten, da dies eine Gefahr für dieses empfindliche archäologische Gebiet darstellen könnte. Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters of vessels and users that underwater surveys are planned at the above locations between Thursday 29th and Friday 30th August 2024. Normal navigation will remain available, however users are urged to practice caution on their approach and departure of these locations.

Underwater Surveys Carrick on Shannon
Shannon Navigation, Unterwasser-Vermessungen, Donnerstag 29. -Freitag 30. August 2024 Standorte – stromaufwärts der Wasseraufbereitungsanlage Carrick-on-Shannon und stromabwärts von Port Shan, Co. Leitrim. Waterways Ireland möchte alle Schiffsführer und Benutzer darauf hinweisen, dass zwischen Donnerstag, dem 29. und Freitag, dem 30. August 2024 an den oben genannten Stellen Unterwasseruntersuchungen geplant sind. Die normale Schifffahrt wird weiterhin möglich sein, jedoch werden die Benutzer dringend gebeten, bei der An- und Abfahrt zu diesen Stellen Vorsicht walten zu lassen. Waterways Ireland dankt seinen Benutzern für ihre Kooperation in dieser Angelegenheit.
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters of vessels and users that Battlebridge Lock, Battlebridge, Co. Leitrim will be closed on Monday 2nd September 2024 from 09:00 to 16:30. This is due to a planned ESB power outage in the area.

Shannon Navigation, Battlebridge Lock, Schließung – 2. September 2024 Waterways Ireland möchte alle Schiffskapitäne und Benutzer darauf hinweisen, dass die Battlebridge Lock, Co. Leitrim, am Montag, den 2. September 2024 von 09:00 bis 16:30 Uhr geschlossen wird. Grund dafür ist ein geplanter Stromausfall der ESB in diesem Gebiet. Waterways Ireland bedauert die damit verbundenen Unannehmlichkeiten und bedankt sich bei seinen Benutzern für ihre Kooperation in dieser Angelegenheit.
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all Masters of Vessels and waterways users that the Jim O’Connor Memorial Castle to Castle Swim will take place on Lough Ree on Saturday 24th August 2024.
The swim will commence at Rindoon jetty at 0900hrs and finish at 1600hrs at Athlone Castle.
Masters of Vessels are advised to proceed with additional caution in the vicinity of the swim and to comply with the instructions of safety boats.

Shannon- Navigation, Lough Ree, Rindoon bis Athlone Schwimmen von Castle zu Castle, Samstag, 24. August 2024 Waterways Ireland möchte alle Schiffsführer und Wasserstraßenbenutzer darauf hinweisen, dass das Jim O’Connor Memorial Castle to Castle Swim am Samstag, den 24. August 2024, im Lough Ree stattfinden wird. Das Schwimmen wird um 0900 Uhr am Rindoon Jetty beginnen und um 1600 Uhr am Athlone Castle enden. Schiffsführer werden gebeten, in der Nähe der Schwimmstrecke besondere Vorsicht walten zu lassen und den Anweisungen der Sicherheitsboote Folge zu leisten. Waterways Ireland dankt seinen Gästen für ihre Kooperation in dieser Angelegenheit.
