Waterways Ireland wishes to remind masters and owners of vessels that extended mooring locations on the above navigations are solely for the use of those vessels that have an extended mooring permit and should not be otherwise occupied.
Waterways Ireland thanks its customers for their cooperation in this matter.
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that Bagenalstown Lock on the River Barrow Navigation will be open from Thursday 21st May to Tuesday 9th June inclusive.
A further Marine Notice will be issued on Friday 12th June regarding another closure, to facilitate the completion of works downstream of the Lock.
Waterways Ireland apologises for any inconvenience caused by this restriction.
Waterways Ireland acknowledge the ongoing cooperation and compliance of customers on the navigations. However, Waterways Ireland recognises that there are still some customers who need to comply with the Canal Bye-law requirements and purchase a Combined Mooring and Passage Permit (CMP).
CMP’s cost €126 per year and permit the holder to cruise continuously and gain lock passage across all these navigations from St. Mullins in Co. Carlow to Dublin and as far west as the Shannon Navigation.
Masters should now note that vessels without a valid permit and/or not displaying the appropriate permit may in future be declined lock passage.
Masters and owners are requested to purchase their canal permits at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment when their cruising plans are interrupted.
Permits may be purchased from Shane Anderson, Assistant Inspector of Navigation

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that due to the current high water levels on the River Barrow, which is causing delays in proposed works, Bagenalstown Lock remains closed. A further update will be issued in early April.
