Athlone Lock

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels that the eastern deep-gate at Athlone Lock has experienced a mechanical failure and is currently non-operational, remaining fixed in the open position.
The western deep-gate remains fully operational, and the lock remains available for navigation. However, navigation is restricted to vessels with a maximum beam of 20 ft (6.1 m), as shown below:

Masters of vessels transiting Athlone Lock are requested to:

- - Proceed with appropriate caution when approaching and using the lock.
  - Follow all instructions issued by Waterways Ireland lock-keepers.

Waterways Ireland engineers are investigating the fault and repairs will be undertaken as soon as practicable to restore full operational capability.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused and will issue a further update once the repair works have been completed and the lock has returned to normal operation.

Waterways Ireland weist die Kapitäne von Schiffen darauf hin, dass das östliche Tiefentor der Schleuse Athlone einen mechanischen Defekt aufweist und derzeit nicht betriebsfähig ist; es befindet sich in geöffneter Position.

Das westliche Tieftor ist weiterhin voll funktionsfähig, und die Schleuse steht der Schifffahrt zur Verfügung. Die Schifffahrt ist jedoch auf Schiffe mit einer maximalen Breite von 20 ft (6,1 m) beschränkt, wie oben dargestellt:

Kapitäne von Schiffen, die die Schleuse von Athlone passieren, werden gebeten:

- - Bei der Annäherung an die Schleuse und bei deren Nutzung mit angemessener Vorsicht vorzugehen.
  - Alle Anweisungen der Schleusenwärter von Waterways Ireland zu befolgen.

Die Ingenieure von Waterways Ireland untersuchen derzeit die Ursache des Defekts, und die Reparaturarbeiten werden so bald wie möglich durchgeführt, um die volle Betriebsfähigkeit wiederherzustellen.
Waterways Ireland bedauert die entstandenen Unannehmlichkeiten und wird eine weitere Mitteilung veröffentlichen, sobald die Reparaturarbeiten abgeschlossen sind und die Schleuse wieder normal in Betrieb ist.

Back Pumping of Water
Locks 18 to 25 Royal Canal

In response to low water levels in Lough Owel, subsequently reducing the water level on the Royal Canal summit level, Waterways Ireland will initiate back-pumping operations between Locks 18 and 25, commencing Monday, July 28th, 2025. Consequently, Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels and waterway users that navigation through Locks 18 to 25 on the Royal Canal will be restricted.

Waterways Ireland apologises and thanks its customers for their cooperation in relation to this matter.

Rückpumpen von Wasser – Lock 18 bis 25
Aufgrund des niedrigen Wasserstands im Lough Owel, der zu einer Verringerung des Wasserstands auf dem höchsten Punkt des Royal Canal geführt hat, wird Waterways Ireland ab Montag, dem 28. Juli 2025, Rückpumpvorgänge zwischen den Schleusen 18 und 25 durchführen. Waterways Ireland weist daher Schiffsführer und Wasserstraßennutzer darauf hin, dass die Navigation durch die Schleusen 18 bis 25 auf dem Royal Canal eingeschränkt sein wird.

Restricted Navigation – Grand Canal – Update on Water Level Repair Works

Waterways Ireland wishes to update to masters of vessels and waterway users regarding water levels on the Grand Canal.

- - Repairs to identified pipe leaks have been completed and pumping from the River Liffey to the summit level is ongoing.
  - The leak on the 29th Level has been repaired.
  - Back pumping from the Shannon is ongoing.
  - Water levels are rising gradually on all levels.
  - Users are advised to contact their local Water Patroller prior to travel for the most current information on water levels.

Eingeschränkte Navigation – Grand Canal – Aktuelles zu den Reparaturarbeiten am Wasserstand
Waterways Ireland möchte Schiffskapitäne und Wasserstraßennutzer über den aktuellen Wasserstand im Grand Canal informieren.

- Die Reparatur der festgestellten Rohrleckagen ist abgeschlossen, und das Pumpen vom Fluss Liffey zum höchsten Punkt wird fortgesetzt.
- Die Leckage auf der 29. Stufe wurde repariert.
- Das Zurückpumpen aus dem Shannon ist im Gange.
- Der Wasserstand steigt auf allen Ebenen allmählich an.
- Nutzern wird empfohlen, sich vor der Fahrt an ihren örtlichen Wasserpatrouillenbeamten zu wenden, um die aktuellsten Informationen zum Wasserstand zu erhalten.

Restricted Navigation – Grand Canal

Grand Canal – Reduced Water Levels & Navigation Restrictions

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels and waterway users that emergency repair works will take place on the 29th Level of the Grand Canal, between Lock 28 and Lock 29, from Tuesday 1st July to Monday 7th July 2025.
These works are required to address a leak on the 29th Level, as a result, water levels on this section will be lower than normal for the duration of the works.
Separately, the Liffey pumps are now currently out of operation, which is significantly affecting water levels between Lock 19 (Lowtown) and Lock 21 (Ballycommon).
Masters of deeper drafted vessels are highly likely to experience navigation difficulties in these sections of the Grand Canal. Users are advised to:

- - Contact the local Water Patroller before travelling
  - Navigate at slow speed
  - Remain within the centre navigation channel where possible

Waterways Ireland’s engineering and operations teams are working urgently to resolve these issues. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, and we recognise the impact and frustration this may cause.

Eingeschränkte Schifffahrt – Grand Canal
Grand Canal – Reduzierte Wasserstände und Einschränkungen für die Schifffahrt
Waterways Ireland möchte Schiffsführer und Wasserstraßennutzer darauf hinweisen,
dass vom Dienstag, 1. Juli, bis Montag, 7. Juli 2025, Notfallreparaturarbeiten auf der 29. Stufe des Grand Canal zwischen Schleuse 28 und Schleuse 29 durchgeführt werden.
Diese Arbeiten sind erforderlich, um ein Leck auf der 29. Stufe zu beheben. Infolgedessen wird der Wasserstand in diesem Abschnitt während der Dauer der Arbeiten niedriger als normal sein.
Unabhängig davon sind die Liffey-Pumpen derzeit außer Betrieb, was sich erheblich auf den Wasserstand zwischen Schleuse 19 (Lowtown) und Schleuse 21 (Ballycommon) auswirkt.
Kapitäne von Schiffen mit größerem Tiefgang werden in diesen Abschnitten des Grand Canal höchstwahrscheinlich mit Navigationsschwierigkeiten konfrontiert sein. Den Nutzern wird empfohlen:

- - Vor der Fahrt die örtliche Wasserpolizei zu kontaktieren.
  - Mit langsamer Geschwindigkeit zu navigieren.
  - Nach Möglichkeit in der Mitte des Fahrwassers zu bleiben.

Die Ingenieur- und Betriebsteams von Waterways Ireland arbeiten mit Hochdruck daran, diese Probleme zu beheben. Wir entschuldigen uns aufrichtig für die Unannehmlichkeiten und sind uns der Auswirkungen und Frustrationen bewusst, die dadurch entstehen können.

Lock 17, Grand Canal

Waterways Ireland wishes to inform masters of vessels and all waterway users that external pumps are currently in operation at Lock 17 on the Grand Canal. These pumps are protected by security fencing, which prevents vessels from self-operating the lock. As a result, assistance from the Waterway Patroller is required for passage.

Please note the following:

1. Navigation through Lock 17 is currently restricted. The duration of this restriction is not yet known. A further Marine Notice will be issued when an update becomes available.
2. Vessels intending to pass through Lock 17 must provide a minimum of 24 hours‘ notice.
3. To arrange passage, please contact the Waterway Patroller at 087 148 7596.

Eingeschränkte Navigation – Schleuse 17, Grand Canal
Waterways Ireland möchte Schiffsführer und alle Wasserstraßennutzer darüber informieren, dass derzeit an der Schleuse 17 des Grand Canal externe Pumpen in Betrieb sind. Diese Pumpen sind durch Sicherheitszäune geschützt, die verhindern, dass Schiffe die Schleuse selbstständig bedienen können. Daher ist für die Durchfahrt die Unterstützung durch den Wasserstraßenpatrouilleur erforderlich.

Bitte beachten Sie Folgendes:

1. Die Durchfahrt durch Schleuse 17 ist derzeit eingeschränkt. Die Dauer dieser Einschränkung ist noch nicht bekannt. Eine weitere Marine Notice wird herausgegeben, sobald neue Informationen vorliegen.
2. Schiffe, die die Schleuse 17 passieren möchten, müssen dies mindestens 24 Stunden im Voraus anmelden.
3. Um die Durchfahrt zu vereinbaren, wenden Sie sich bitte an den Wasserstraßenpatrouillendienst unter der Nummer 087 148 7596.
