The Shannon-Erne Waterway (SEW) is a real jewel among the Irish waterways. On this waterway you will experience unique and beautiful nature, partly consisting of canals, lakes and rivers. The edge of the shore is partly covered with lush green fields, sometimes glowing at you. There are fewer boats on the Shannon-Erne waterway than on the Shannon southbound. This waterway is ideal for anglers and birdwatchers.
After extensive renovation work, the waterway was reopened in 1994. Along the way you will find remnants of times long past. Among other things, you can see the remains of the destroyed bridge between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. A short time later, a modern bridge spans the canal again. However, you will not be completely without civilisation, as there is the opportunity to visit a picturesque village on the way and to stop off at one of the typical Irish gastro-pubs. In total, the Shannon-Erne Waterway is 63km long and has 16 locks between Leitrim and Upper Lough Erne. You can stop along the way at one of the seven public landing stages and experience authentic Ireland from Carrick-on-Shannon towards Upper Lough Erne.

Der Shannon-Erne Waterway (SEW) ist ein wahres Juwel unter den irischen Wasserstraßen. Auf diesem Wasserweg erleben Sie eine einzigartige und schöne Natur, die teilweise aus Kanälen, Seen und Flüssen besteht. Der Rand des Ufer ist teilweise mit saftig grünen Feldern bedeckt, die einem manchmal leuchtend zugewandt sind. Auf dem Shannon-Erne-Wasserweg sind weniger Boote unterwegs als auf auf dem Shannon in Richtung Süden. Dieser Wasserweg ist ideal für Angler und Vogelbeobachter.
Nach umfangreichen Renovierungsarbeiten wurde der Wasserweg 1994 wiedereröffnet. Auf Weg finden Sie immer wieder Überbleibsel aus längst vergangenen Zeiten. Unter anderem sind die Überreste der zerstörten Brücke zwischen der Republik Irland und Nordirland zu sehen. Kurze Zeit später überspannt eine moderne Brücke wieder den Kanal. Allerdings werden Sie nicht ganz ohne Zivilisation sein, denn unterwegs gibt es die Möglichkeit, ein malerisches Dorf zu besuchen und in einem der typisch irischen Gastro-Pubs einzukehren. Insgesamt ist der Shannon-Erne-Waterway 63 km lang und hat 16 Schleusen zwischen Leitrim und Upper Lough Erne. Sie können Unterwegs an einer der sieben öffentlichen Anlegestellen anhalten und das authentische Irland von Carrick-on-Shannon aus richtung Upper-Lough Erne erleben.
