Tarmonbarry Lock

Intended closure for works

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that Tarmonbarry Lock will be closed to boating traffic from Tues 6 Oct until to Fri 23 Oct to facilitate remedial works to the lock gates.
During the works, vessels may circumnavigate the lock using the Camlin River, entering or leaving the Shannon 3km north of Tarmonbarry and similarly at Clondra Lock, immediately south of Tarmonbarry .
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this may cause and thanks its customers for their cooperation in this matter.

Swimming Event

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that a swimming event will take place on Mon 3 Aug from the Bord na Mona bridge north of Lanesborough to Lanesborough bridge commencing at 1400hrs and finishing at 1500hrs.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when approaching this section of the navigation, to heed any instructions issued by the event marshals and in particular to keep a look-out for swimmers in the water.

Sat 4th and Sun 5th July 2015

Navigation Restrictions -Triathlone Triathlon Event

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels of the timings of the swim elements of the above event when navigation will be temporarily closed from the M6 by-pass bridge to Athlone Lock.

  • Sat 4 July 1715 hrs to 1745hrs (East bank south of Town Bridge only)      1830 hrs to 2030hrs
  • Sun 5 July 1130hrs to 1400hrs

Masters of vessels are requested to keep a sharp look-out for swimmers in the water at all times, proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in this section of the navigation and note any advice from safety boat officials.
Masters should further note that berthing south of the Town Bridge on the East bank will be limited to a small number of vessels to facilitate swimmers as they approach the exit ramp.
