Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and users of the Shannon Navigation that Portumna Bridge is now reopened.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that Portumna Bridge will be not be opening on 8th and 9th February 2019 due to essential maintenance works being carried out.

Portumna Bridge

Alteration to Opening Times on Sat 18 March

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise that for operational reasons, the number of openings of Portumna Bridge on Saturday, 18th March 2017, will be reduced from six to four.

      • The opening times for boat passages on that day will be 9:45, 14:30, 16:30 and 17:30.
      • There will be no openings at 11:00 nor at 12:30.
      • The times of bridge openings on other days are not affected.

Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this may cause its customers and thanks them for their cooperation in this matter

Athlone to Portumna

SHANNON ONE DESIGN (SOD)

Long Distance Sailing Race

Sat 27th. and Sun 28th. June 2015

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels of the above race. SOD’s will race from Athlone lock to Banagher harbour on Sat the 27th. and from Banagher to Portumna bridge on Sun 28th.
Masters of powerboats are requested to heed their wash when passing vessels under sail and accordingly to observe the navigation rules.

Portumna Bridge – Hayes Island

Vessel Adrift

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that a report has been received that a vessel has broken its moorings at Hayes Island, Portumna Bridge and is presently drifting in the navigation.
Masters are advised to keep a lookout for this craft and navigate with due caution when in this section of the navigation.
