Shannon Navigation

Tarmonbarry Lock

Intended closure for works

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that Tarmonbarry Lock on the Shannon Navigation will be closed to boat traffic from the 23rd September, 2014.

The lock will remain closed over the winter period for structural works including replacement of lock gates, strengthening of land ties and masonry repairs to the lock chamber.
During the works, vessels may circumnavigate the lock using the Camlin River, entering or leaving the Shannon 3km north of Tarmonbarry and similarly at Clondra Lock, immediately south of Tarmonbarry .
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this may cause and thanks its customers for their cooperation in this matter.

Grand Canal Closure

Ballycowan/Rahan 29th – 30th  Level

Temporary Closure due to Repair Works

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the Grand Canal between Lock 29, Ballycowan and Lock 30 , Rahan will be closed from Monday 6th October 2014 until late November 2014  in order to carry out structural  repairs to Charleville  Aquaduct.
Waterways Ireland thanks its customers for their cooperation in this matter and regrets any inconvenience that this may cause.

Temporary Navigation Closure

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the Grand Canal at Lock No. C2 (Lower Mount Street) is closed to navigation to facilitate emergency lock repairs.
It is estimated that repairs will be completed by 22nd August 2014.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this may cause.

Lower Bann Navigation

Restricted Navigation

Lough Neagh Entrance and Toome Canal

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that there will be restricted navigation from the Lough Neagh entrance to the Lower Bann Navigation and along the Toome Canal to Toomebridge / B18 road bridge from Mon 1st. to Thurs 4th. Sep. 2014 to facilitate an event taking place in the navigation. Available airdraft will be 4.5m ordinary summer level.

  • Masters will be facilitated with a transit through this section of the navigation between 1900 hrs and 2000 hrs each day, by prior arrangement, by contacting +44(0)7876032891.
  • Masters should also note that Waterways Ireland moorings and slipway at Toome will be unavailable during the period.
  • Master are requested to travel at slow speed and with minimum wash during their passage as there will be pontoons and small craft with equipment onboard which can be easily upset on the moorings.
  • Masters are further requested to take heed of any advice or requests from the crew of safety craft associated with the activity which will include swimmers in the water.

Grand Canal Basin Dublin

Dragon Boat Regatta

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that the Dragon Boat Regatta will take place in Grand Canal Basin on Sat 13th and Sun 14th Sep 2014 from 0800hrs to 1800hrs daily.
Masters are requested navigate with due caution if transiting the Basin on these days and note the advice of safety boat marshals.
