ROYAL CANAL

Kilcock Harbour RE-OPENED

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise that Kilcock Harbour has now re-opened for public use following earlier closures due to water quality issues.

Remedial works were undertaken by Kildare County Council to the storm drainage network, subsequent testing has shown that the water quality is suitable for use again.

Water quality testing will continue in the harbour and updates will be issued as appropriate.

Waterways Ireland thanks its customers for their ongoing understanding in this matter.

Towpath UPGRADE

Additional Towpath Closure – 16th Lock to Spin Bridge

Further to MN 132/2016 Waterways Ireland wishes to further advise that the towpath of the Royal Canal in Kilcock from west of the 16th Lock Shaw Bridge to Spin Bridge (approx. 950 metres), will also be closed until December 2016 to facilitate the construction of a new cycle route.

Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this may cause to its customers.

Kesh River Low Water Levels

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and vessel owners that the water level on the Kesh River between Kesh Village and lower Lough Erne has fallen to an annual low level, metric water level gauges have been installed at the mouth of the Kesh River to indicate the water level along the route, all masters should check these gauges before making passage along the river towards Kesh, masters of all deep drafted vessels are advised to avoid the area until water levels have increased.

Temporary Closure of Victoria and Rooskey Locks

Marine Notice No 128 of 2016 refers. Waterways Ireland wishes to advise that the intended inspections of Victoria Lock, Meelick and Roosky Lock, will not now take place until after Wed 2 Nov, the locks will remain open in the intervening period.

Temporary Mooring Closure

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that the moorings on the Sligo Road (Henry St jetty) and the front finger of the‎ Round „O“ jetty will be closed on Friday 14 Oct to facilitate, the Erne Pike Classic Competition.
These moorings will be fully available again from 0900hrs Saturday 15 Oct.
