Thomond Swim 2025–Shannon–Limerick
Navigation Closure Saturday 21 June 2025
Waterways Ireland wishes to inform users that the Thomond Swim 2025 takes on the River Shannon, between St Michaels’s Rowing Club on O’Callaghan Strand and proceeds up the river turning just below Thomond Bridge, Saturday 21 June 2025.
In the interest of safety, the River Shannon will be closed to all vessels other than those associated with the swim event from north of Thomond Bridge to south of Shannon Bridge for the duration of the event whilst swimmers are in the water.
Navigation & Safety Advisory:

- Swimmers and support craft will be active on the water from 14:00 to 16:00
- Masters of vessels are asked to comply with instructions from event marshals and safety boats, and to keep the racecourse clear.
- The navigation will be re-opened once all swimmers are clear of the water.
Such closures are rare, yet necessary. Waterways Ireland thanks all waterway users for their cooperation and assistance in ensuring the safe and successful running of this event.

Thomond Swim 2025 – Shannon – Limerick – Sperrung der Navigation am Samstag, 21. Juni 2025
Waterways Ireland möchte die Nutzer darüber informieren, dass das Thomond Swim 2025 am Samstag, 21. Juni 2025, auf dem Fluss Shannon zwischen dem St. Michaels’s Rowing Club am O’Callaghan Strand stattfindet und flussaufwärts bis kurz unterhalb der Thomond Bridge führt.
Aus Sicherheitsgründen wird der Fluss Shannon während der Dauer der Veranstaltung für alle Schiffe gesperrt, mit Ausnahme derjenigen, die mit der Schwimmveranstaltung in Verbindung stehen, und zwar vom Norden der Thomond Bridge bis zum Süden der Shannon Bridge, solange sich die Schwimmer im Wasser befinden.
Hinweis zur Schifffahrt und Sicherheit:

- Die Schwimmer und Begleitschiffe werden von 14:00 bis 16:00 Uhr auf dem Wasser aktiv sein.
- Die Kapitäne der Schiffe werden gebeten, den Anweisungen der Veranstaltungsleiter und Sicherheitsboote Folge zu leisten und die Rennstrecke frei zu halten.
- Die Schifffahrt wird wieder freigegeben, sobald alle Schwimmer das Wasser verlassen haben.
Solche Sperrungen sind selten, aber notwendig. Waterways Ireland dankt allen Wasserstraßennutzern für ihre Zusammenarbeit und Unterstützung bei der Gewährleistung eines sicheren und erfolgreichen Ablaufs dieser Veranstaltung.
