18th Level Navigation Closure
Healy’s Bridge Issued Thursday, 5 February 2026
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters of vessels and users of the Grand Canal that the 18th Level is closed to navigation with immediate effect and until further notice.
This closure is necessary following a vehicular strike on Healy’s (Bonynge) Bridge late on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. The collision has caused bridge debris to enter the water and has resulted in damage to the parapet, which pose a significant risk to navigation and public safety.

As a direct consequence of this incident, the lowering of the 18th Level and associated works previously scheduled and detailed in Marine Notice No. 14 of 2026 is postponed until further notice.
Waterways Ireland will issue a further update as soon as more information regarding the repair timeline and reopening becomes available. Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks canal users for their understanding and cooperation during this unplanned closure.

Healy’s Bridge, Ausgestellt am Donnerstag, 5. Februar 2026
Waterways Ireland möchte alle Kapitäne von Schiffen und Nutzer des Grand Canal darauf hinweisen, dass die 18. Stufe mit sofortiger Wirkung und bis auf Weiteres für die Schifffahrt gesperrt ist.
Diese Sperrung ist notwendig, nachdem am späten Mittwoch, dem 4. Februar 2026, ein Fahrzeug gegen die Healy’s (Bonynge) Bridge geprallt ist. Durch die Kollision sind Trümmerteile der Brücke ins Wasser gefallen und die Brüstung wurde beschädigt, was ein erhebliches Risiko für die Schifffahrt und die öffentliche Sicherheit darstellt.

Als direkte Folge dieses Vorfalls wird die Absenkung der 18. Stufe und die damit verbundenen Arbeiten, die zuvor geplant und in der Marine Notice Nr. 14 von 2026 detailliert beschrieben waren, bis auf Weiteres verschoben.
Waterways Ireland wird weitere Informationen veröffentlichen, sobald mehr Details zum Zeitplan für die Reparatur und zur Wiedereröffnung vorliegen.
