Postponed Temporary Closure of 29th Level at Huband Aqueduct

Issued: 10 April 2026

Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels and waterway users that the planned temporary closure of the 29th Level at Huband Aqueduct has been delayed.
This is due to additional technical requirements identified in advance of the works. Consequently, the canal will remain open to navigation until further notice.
A revised notice will issue in due course.

Verschobene vorübergehende Sperrung der 29. Stufe am Huband-Aquädukt Veröffentlicht: 10. April 2026
Waterways Ireland teilt den Schiffsführern und Wasserstraßennutzern mit, dass sich die geplante vorübergehende Sperrung der 29. Stufe am Huband-Aquädukt verzögert.
Dies ist auf zusätzliche technische Anforderungen zurückzuführen, die im Vorfeld der Arbeiten festgestellt wurden. Folglich bleibt der Kanal bis auf Weiteres für die Schifffahrt geöffnet.
Eine überarbeitete Bekanntmachung wird zu gegebener Zeit veröffentlicht.

Grand Canal

Shannon Harbour

Temporary Water Level Reduction

Issued: 07 April 2026

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels of a planned temporary reduction in water levels at Shannon Harbour. The purpose of which is to facilitate excavation works for the construction of the new jetty, while minimising environmental impact along the bank.
Water levels will be lowered by approximately 200mm for 6–8 weeks. The reduction will be implemented as soon as possible, commencing 13 April 2026, subject to operational requirements.
Concurrently, a construction pontoon will be in place and operating within the navigation area during the works. While vessel passage past the works will remain possible, it will be restricted. Masters of vessels are requested to proceed with caution and to comply with instructions provided by site staff.
Vessel owners are advised to check and adjust mooring lines from 13 April to accommodate the reduced water levels. Waterways Ireland staff will also monitor and adjust moorings where necessary.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks all users for their cooperation.

Vorübergehende Absenkung des Wasserstands, herausgegeben am: 7. April 2026
Waterways Ireland möchte die Schiffsführer über eine geplante vorübergehende Absenkung des Wasserstands in Shannon Harbour informieren. Ziel dieser Maßnahme ist es, die Aushubarbeiten für den Bau des neuen Anlegers zu ermöglichen und dabei die Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt entlang des Ufers so gering wie möglich zu halten.

Der Wasserstand wird für einen Zeitraum von 6 bis 8 Wochen um ca. 200 mm gesenkt. Die Absenkung wird so bald wie möglich, spätestens jedoch ab dem 13. April 2026, vorbehaltlich betrieblicher Erfordernisse, durchgeführt.
Gleichzeitig wird während der Arbeiten ein Baupontonschiff im Schifffahrtsbereich aufgestellt und in Betrieb genommen. Die Durchfahrt von Schiffen an der Baustelle bleibt zwar möglich, wird jedoch eingeschränkt sein. Schiffskapitäne werden gebeten, mit Vorsicht vorzugehen und die Anweisungen des Baustellenpersonals zu befolgen.
Schiffseignern wird empfohlen, ab dem 13. April die Festmacherleinen zu überprüfen und anzupassen, um dem gesunkenen Wasserstand Rechnung zu tragen. Das Personal von Waterways Ireland wird die Festmacherleinen ebenfalls überwachen und bei Bedarf anpassen.
Waterways Ireland bedauert die dadurch entstehenden Unannehmlichkeiten und dankt allen Nutzern für ihre Zusammenarbeit.

Grand Canal

Temporary Closure of 29th Level at Huband Aqueduct

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters of vessels and waterway users that the Grand Canal will be temporarily closed on the 29th Level from 7 April to 17 April to facilitate emergency repair works.
The closure is required following damage to the wall of the Huband Aqueduct, where a section of the aqueduct wall has collapsed, necessitating urgent intervention.
To enable the works to proceed safely, temporary dams will be installed on either side of the aqueduct, and water levels in the affected section will be lowered.
Navigation through this section will not be possible during the works. Boaters are requested to plan their journeys accordingly and to comply with all on-site signage and instructions.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks users for their cooperation.

Vorübergehende Sperrung des 29. Abschnitts am Huband-Aquädukt
Waterways Ireland weist alle Schiffskapitäne und Wasserstraßennutzer darauf hin, dass der Grand Canal vom 7. bis zum 17. April im 29. Abschnitt vorübergehend gesperrt wird, um dringende Reparaturarbeiten zu ermöglichen.
Die Sperrung ist aufgrund von Schäden an der Mauer des Huband-Aquädukts erforderlich, wo ein Teil der Aquäduktmauer eingestürzt ist und dringende Maßnahmen erforderlich macht.
Um die Arbeiten sicher durchführen zu können, werden auf beiden Seiten des Aquädukts provisorische Dämme errichtet und der Wasserstand im betroffenen Abschnitt gesenkt.
Die Durchfahrt durch diesen Abschnitt ist während der Arbeiten nicht möglich. Bootsfahrer werden gebeten, ihre Fahrten entsprechend zu planen und alle Beschilderungen und Anweisungen vor Ort zu befolgen.
Waterways Ireland bedauert die entstandenen Unannehmlichkeiten und dankt den Nutzern für ihre Zusammenarbeit.

Marine Notice No. 38 of 2026, Update

Grand Canal

18th Level Robertstown Update

Issued: 02/04/2026

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels and users of the Grand Canal of the following updates:
1. Lock 18 will be fully operational from Friday, 3 April 2026, following successful engineering works to the land tunnels.

- - Water levels on the 17th and 18th levels have been restored to normal navigation levels.
  - Masters of vessels required to move during the closure are welcome to return to this section from Friday, 3 April 2026.

2. 18th Level Robertstown Culvert – Ongoing Works. Repairs to the Robertstown Culvert are nearing completion. It is expected that this section will re-open to navigation on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.

Waterways Ireland regrets the inconvenience caused by these essential works and thanks its customers for their continued co-operation.

Aktualisierung zur 18. Ebene bei Robertstown, veröffentlicht am: 02.04.2026
Waterways Ireland möchte die Kapitäne von Schiffen und die Nutzer des Grand Canal über folgende Aktualisierungen informieren:

1. Die Schleuse 18 wird ab Freitag, dem 3. April 2026, nach erfolgreichem Abschluss der Bauarbeiten an den Landtunneln wieder voll funktionsfähig sein.

- - Die Wasserstände auf den Ebenen 17 und 18 wurden wieder auf normale Schifffahrtsniveaus gebracht.
  - Kapitäne von Schiffen, die während der Sperrung ausweichen mussten, können ab Freitag, dem 3. April 2026, wieder in diesen Abschnitt zurückkehren.

2. 18. Stufe – Robertstown-Durchlass – Laufende Arbeiten.
Die Reparaturarbeiten am Robertstown-Durchlass stehen kurz vor dem Abschluss. Es wird erwartet, dass dieser Abschnitt am Mittwoch, dem 22. April 2026, wieder für die Schifffahrt freigegeben wird.

Waterways Ireland bedauert die durch diese notwendigen Arbeiten verursachten Unannehmlichkeiten und dankt seinen Kunden für ihre anhaltende Zusammenarbeit.

Grand Canal Barrow Line,

26th Level,

Vicarstown Canal Re-opening

Issued: 01 April 2026

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise customers that following extensive rebuilding and renovation works to Vicarstown Harbour walls:

- - The Canal at Vicarstown will re-open to boat traffic and vessels will be permitted through Vicarstown from 9am on Friday 3rd April.
  - The Blueway at Vicarstown Quay will re-open from 9am on Friday 3rd April.
  - Vessels moored in Vicarstown will be permitted to return to soft bank moorings from Friday 3rd April.

Works will continue on the new quaysides for a further 2 weeks, installing additional water taps, cleats and landscaping. To facilitate these works all hard-edge moorings in Vicarstown, north and south of Vicarstown Bridge, will remain out of service until Saturday 18th April.

Wiedereröffnung des Vicarstown-Kanals,Ausgestellt: 1. April 2026
Waterways Ireland möchte seine Kunden darauf hinweisen, dass nach umfangreichen Umbau- und Sanierungsarbeiten an den Hafenmauern von Vicarstown:

- - Der Kanal bei Vicarstown wird wieder für den Schiffsverkehr freigegeben, und Schiffe dürfen ab Freitag, dem 3. April, ab 9 Uhr durch Vicarstown fahren.
  - Der Blueway am Vicarstown Quay wird am Freitag, dem 3. April, ab 9 Uhr wieder geöffnet.
  - In Vicarstown festgemachte Schiffe dürfen ab Freitag, dem 3. April, wieder an den Weichland-Liegeplätzen anlegen.

Die Arbeiten an den neuen Kais werden noch zwei weitere Wochen andauern, wobei zusätzliche Wasserhähne und Klampen installiert sowie Landschafts- gestaltungsarbeiten durchgeführt werden. Um diese Arbeiten zu ermöglichen, bleiben alle festen Anlegestellen in Vicarstown, nördlich und südlich der Vicarstown-Brücke, bis Samstag, den 18. April, außer Betrieb.
Waterways Ireland dankt seinen Kunden für ihre Zusammenarbeit in dieser Angelegenheit.
