Waterways Ireland seeks to inform masters of vessels that a swim event will take place as part of the Lanesborough Triathlon. This is a second swim on the Shannon Navigation in addition to the Lough Derg Gael Force Portumna swim, also on Saturday 11 July: Marine Notice No. 71 of 2026
Event Details
Saturday, 11 July 2026 – swim area out of bounds: 10:45–13:30 hrs. The swim course is located south of the road bridge at Lanesborough, extending across the navigation between Lanesborough and Ballyleague, see Page 14 of the Shannon Erne Navigation Guide.

Navigation Restrictions. During the event, the designated swim area will be closed to all vessel traffic, except for authorised safety and event craft. Masters of vessels are requested to:

- - Hold position north of Ballyleague Marina or south of Ballyclare Island / Ballyclare Point until the event has concluded.
  - Comply with all instructions issued by event marshals and safety boats.
  - Proceed only when advised that navigation has fully reopened following confirmation that all swimmers are safely clear of the water.

Waterways Ireland möchte die Schiffsführer darüber informieren, dass im Rahmen des Lanesborough-Triathlons ein Schwimmwettbewerb stattfindet. Dies ist neben dem Schwimmen der „Lough Derg Gael Force Portumna“, das ebenfalls am Samstag, dem 11. Juli, stattfindet, bereits das zweite Schwimmereignis auf der Shannon-Schifffahrtsstrecke: Schifffahrtsmitteilung Nr. 71 von 2026
Veranstaltungsdetails
Samstag, 11. Juli 2026 – Schwimmbereich gesperrt: 10:45–13:30 Uhr. Die Schwimmstrecke befindet sich südlich der Straßenbrücke bei Lanesborough und erstreckt sich über die Wasserstraße zwischen Lanesborough und Ballyleague, siehe Seite 14 des „Shannon Erne Navigation Guide“.
Schifffahrtsbeschränkungen. Während der Veranstaltung ist der ausgewiesene Schwimmbereich für den gesamten Schiffsverkehr gesperrt, mit Ausnahme von autorisierten Sicherheits- und Veranstaltungsbooten. Schiffskapitäne werden gebeten:

- - Bis zum Ende der Veranstaltung nördlich der Ballyleague Marina oder südlich von Ballyclare Island / Ballyclare Point zu warten.
  - Alle Anweisungen der Veranstaltungshelfer und Sicherheitsboote zu befolgen.
  - Erst dann weiterzufahren, wenn mitgeteilt wird, dass die Schifffahrt wieder vollständig freigegeben ist, nachdem bestätigt wurde, dass sich alle Schwimmer sicher aus dem Wasser begeben haben.

Movanagher Canal

Weed Cutting

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels that essential weed-cutting operations will be carried out at the upstream end of Movanagher Canal from Monday 6 July 2026 to Friday 10 July 2026.
The works will result in a temporary disruption to navigation through the canal during this period.
Vessel masters are requested to provide at least one hour’s notice before passing the Movanagher Canal, to enable operational staff to suspend weed-cutting activities, where practicable.
Masters are requested to comply with any instructions issued by Waterways Ireland staff and to proceed with caution in the vicinity of the works.
Waterways Ireland thanks Movanagher Canal users for their cooperation and regrets any inconvenience caused.

Waterways Ireland weist die Schiffsführer darauf hin, dass vom Montag, dem 6. Juli 2026, bis Freitag, dem 10. Juli 2026, am stromaufwärts gelegenen Ende des Movanagher-Kanals notwendige Unkrautbekämpfungsarbeiten durchgeführt werden.
Die Arbeiten führen während dieses Zeitraums zu einer vorübergehenden Beeinträchtigung der Schifffahrt durch den Kanal.
Die Schiffskapitäne werden gebeten, ihre Durchfahrt durch den Movanagher-Kanal mindestens eine Stunde im Voraus anzukündigen, damit das Betriebspersonal die Unkrautbekämpfungsarbeiten, soweit möglich, unterbrechen kann.
Die Schiffskapitäne werden gebeten, alle Anweisungen des Personals von Waterways Ireland zu befolgen und sich im Bereich der Arbeiten vorsichtig zu verhalten.
Waterways Ireland dankt den Nutzern des Movanagher-Kanals für ihre Zusammenarbeit und entschuldigt sich für etwaige Unannehmlichkeiten.

Lough Derg

Swim Event – Portumna – Saturday, 11 July 2026, Issued: 02 July 2026

Waterways Ireland wishes to inform all waterway users that the Gaelforce Great Lake Swim 2026 will take place on Lough Derg on Saturday, 11 July 2026. The event will start and finish in Portumna, with navigational restrictions in operation on 11 July 2026 from 10:30 hrs to 15:30 hrs.

To facilitate the safe conduct of the swim, involving approximately 400 competitors, 15 safety kayaks, and 5 safety RIBs, a Vessel Exclusion Zone will be in place for the duration of the event (see map below).
The swim course will be clearly marked with highly visible buoys and actively patrolled by safety RIBs.
All swimmers will use tow floats, ensuring high visibility to all vessel traffic.
Castle Harbour and its immediate approach routes will be closed to all non-event vessels. Entry to and exit from Castle Harbour will be prohibited for the duration of the event.
No vessels or personal watercraft may enter, transit, fish, or anchor within the swim zone during event times, with the exception of official safety vessels.
Masters of all vessels must comply fully with instructions issued by event marshals, safety craft, and Waterways Ireland personnel.
Vessels may transit south and east of the swim area during the event.
Access to and from Terryglass Harbour will remain unrestricted.
Normal navigation will resume only once all competitors have been confirmed safely out of the water.

Waterways Ireland möchte alle Wasserstraßennutzer darüber informieren, dass am Samstag, dem 11. Juli 2026, auf dem Lough Derg das „Gaelforce Great Lake Swim 2026“ stattfindet. Die Veranstaltung beginnt und endet in Portumna; am 11. Juli 2026 gelten von 10:30 Uhr bis 15:30 Uhr Schifffahrtsbeschränkungen.

Um die sichere Durchführung des Schwimmwettbewerbs mit rund 400 Teilnehmern, 15 Sicherheitskajaks und 5 Sicherheits-RIBs zu gewährleisten, wird für die Dauer der Veranstaltung eine Schiffsausschlusszone eingerichtet (siehe Karte unten).
Die Schwimmstrecke wird mit gut sichtbaren Bojen deutlich markiert und aktiv von Sicherheits-RIBs überwacht.
Alle Schwimmer verwenden Schleppbojen, um für den gesamten Schiffsverkehr gut sichtbar zu sein.
Castle Harbour und die unmittelbar angrenzenden Zufahrtswege werden für alle nicht zur Veranstaltung gehörenden Wasserfahrzeuge gesperrt. Das Ein- und Auslaufen aus Castle Harbour ist für die Dauer der Veranstaltung untersagt.
Während der Veranstaltungszeiten dürfen keine Wasserfahrzeuge oder Wassermotorräder in die Schwimmzone einfahren, diese durchqueren, dort fischen oder vor Anker gehen, mit Ausnahme der offiziellen Sicherheitsboote.
Die Schiffsführer aller Wasserfahrzeuge müssen sich strikt an die Anweisungen der Veranstaltungsleiter, der Sicherheitsboote und des Personals von Waterways Ireland halten.
Schiffe dürfen während der Veranstaltung südlich und östlich des Schwimmbereichs passieren.
Der Zugang zum und vom Hafen von Terryglass bleibt uneingeschränkt möglich.
Der normale Schiffsverkehr wird erst wieder aufgenommen, wenn alle Teilnehmer sicher aus dem Wasser sind.

Royal Canal Greenway

Phibsborough

Temporary Greenway Closure

Between Lock 4 & Lock 5, Issued: 02 July 2026

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise Greenway users that a short section of the Royal Canal Greenway, east of Phibsborough, will be temporarily closed to the public from Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July 2026, inclusive.
The temporary closure is required to facilitate ground investigation works associated with the construction of a new bridge spanning the Royal Canal as part of the Home – BusConnects Dublin – Ballymun/Finglas to City Centre.
During these works, the Greenway will be fully closed between Lock 4 and Cross Guns Bridge. No through access will be available during the works. A clearly signposted diversion route will be in place to accommodate Greenway users.

Please note that additional Greenway closures in the same area will be required later in the year to facilitate the construction of the new bridge. Further Marine Notices will be issued in advance of these closures.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks Greenway users for their cooperation and patience while these essential works are undertaken.

Royal Canal Greenway, Phibsborough, Vorübergehende Sperrung des Greenway zwischen Schleuse 4 und Schleuse 5, Veröffentlicht: 02. Juli 2026

Waterways Ireland möchte die Nutzer des Greenways darauf hinweisen, dass ein kurzer Abschnitt des Royal Canal Greenway östlich von Phibsborough vom Montag, dem 6. Juli, bis einschließlich Freitag, dem 10. Juli 2026, vorübergehend für die Öffentlichkeit gesperrt ist.
Die vorübergehende Sperrung ist erforderlich, um Bodenuntersuchungsarbeiten im Zusammenhang mit dem Bau einer neuen Brücke über den Royal Canal im Rahmen des Projekts „Home – BusConnects Dublin – Ballymun/Finglas zum Stadtzentrum“ zu ermöglichen.
Während dieser Arbeiten wird der Greenway zwischen Schleuse 4 und der Cross Guns Bridge vollständig gesperrt. Während der Arbeiten ist keine Durchfahrt möglich. Für die Nutzer des Greenways wird eine deutlich ausgeschilderte Umleitung eingerichtet.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass im Laufe des Jahres weitere Sperrungen des Greenway in diesem Bereich erforderlich sein werden, um den Bau der neuen Brücke zu ermöglichen. Vor diesen Sperrungen werden weitere Marine Notices veröffentlicht.
Waterways Ireland bedauert die dadurch entstehenden Unannehmlichkeiten und dankt den Greenway-Nutzern für ihre Zusammenarbeit und Geduld während der Durchführung dieser notwendigen Arbeiten.

Grand Canal

Level C5

Navigation Closure Until Further Notice, Issued: 01 July 2026

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters of vessels that the Grand Canal is closed to vessel navigation on Level C5 due to a sunken barge obstructing the navigation at Charlemont Place, Dublin, until the obstruction is removed.

Navigation Restrictions

- - The sunken barge is obstructing navigation, and vessels must not attempt to transit the affected section.
  - Hydrocarbon pollution control booms have been deployed around the vessel as a precautionary environmental protection measure.
  - Members of the public are strictly prohibited from attempting to board, access or interfere with the vessel.
  - Disruption to navigation is expected to be minimal, as Lock C1 is currently closed for renovation works.

Waterways Ireland is seeking the safe removal of the vessel and the timely reopening of the navigation as soon as practicable.
Further updates will be issued as necessary.

Grand Canal, Stufe C5 – Sperrung der Navigationt bis auf Weiteres,

Waterways Ireland weist die Kapitäne von Schiffen darauf hin, dass der Grand Canal auf Stufe C5 für die Schifffahrt gesperrt ist, da ein gesunkenes Lastschiff die Schifffahrt bei Charlemont Place, Dublin, behindert, bis das Hindernis beseitigt ist.

Schifffahrtsbeschränkungen;

- - Der gesunkene Lastkahn behindert die Schifffahrt, und Schiffe dürfen nicht versuchen, den betroffenen Abschnitt zu befahren.
  - Als vorsorgliche Umweltschutzmaßnahme wurden rund um das Schiff Ölsperren zur Eindämmung von Kohlenwasserstoffverschmutzungen ausgebracht.
  - Der Öffentlichkeit ist es strengstens untersagt, zu versuchen, an Bord des Schiffes zu gelangen, sich dem Schiff zu nähern oder in dessen Betrieb einzugreifen.
  - Es wird erwartet, dass die Beeinträchtigungen für die Schifffahrt minimal sein werden, da die Schleuse C1 derzeit wegen Renovierungsarbeiten geschlossen ist.

Waterways Ireland bemüht sich um die sichere Bergung des Schiffes und die zeitnahe Wiederaufnahme des Schiffsverkehrs, sobald dies praktikabel ist.
