Roadmap for reopening of navigations
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all Masters of vessels and water users of the Shannon Navigation, Shannon-Erne Waterway, Royal Canal, Grand Canal, Barrow Line and Navigation that the following roadmap for reopening of the navigations:
Navigational Use
It is important to understand that it will take time to fully open all navigations. It requires the introduction of new COVID-19 procedures and protocols for compliance with Health and Safety legislation. This involves the management and mitigation of risk, training of staff and provision of resources for the protection of staff and waterway users. We ask all our boaters to continue to observe the regulations.
We advise users on our ROI navigations that:

- Locks on the Shannon Navigation, Shannon-Erne Waterway, Royal Canal, Grand Canal, Barrow Line and Navigation will reopen on 8th June 2020.
- Winter mooring facilities have been further extended until 20th July 2020 in order to ease the pressure on our boating community. Boaters do not need to travel to move their vessel. There will be no additional cost for this extension;
- Navigation is open within 5km of your home. All Waterways Ireland service blocks are closed.
- Travel in excess of 5km (ROI only) from your home to check on vessels moored on the navigation is prohibited until further notice;
- Our towpaths remain open and accessible for local exercise. We are however asking users of our canal towpaths to limit their use, and only use towpaths which are in close vicinity (5km in ROI) of your home.
GENERAL GUIDELINES (ALL NAVIGATIONS);
Navigations:

- Electricity and water services have been reconnected;
- Normal pump-out facilities are available for boaters. Owners must ensure that travel to pump-out facilities must be undertaken in a responsible manner, minimising the amount of essential movement out on the water;
- When on jetties please be aware of other users. Wait or move aside to allow others to pass at a safe distance.
- All Waterways Ireland service blocks are closed.
- Canal Towpaths and walks
- Our plea to everyone thinking of using our towpaths is:
- Observe social distancing protocols – keep a distance of at least 2m (6 feet) away from other people;
- Use the towpaths for brief physical exercise only;
- Limit use – do not take part in physical activity on towpaths which have the potential for large numbers, where social distancing cannot be observed comfortably;
- Up to four people not of same household can meet outdoors while maintaining strict social distancing ;
- Stay local to your home (5km ROI only);
- As towpaths in some places can be narrow, when you pass someone, please make sure you use the full width of the towpath, keep moving, and stand aside to allow others to pass, in single file, when necessary;
- If you can’t avoid passing a moored boat please keep as far away from it as possible and pass quickly by;
- Be mindful of others and act always with consideration and with respect and observe the leave no trace principles and protect our environment;
- Observe all health etiquettes when on the towpaths.
In all instances, social distancing must be maintained at all times keeping your distance from both other people and moored boats. Please refer to your relevant representative body for guidance on the most appropriate health and safety precautions and advice.
We recognise the situation is constantly changing and we ask for your patience during this time. Any updates to the situation will be communicated via the issuance of Marine Notices, through our Waterways Ireland Social Media channels and website.

Fahrplan für die Wiedereröffnung der Navigationssysteme
Waterways Ireland möchte alle Schiffskapitäne und Wasserstraßenbenutzer der Shannon Navigation, des Shannon-Erne Waterway, des Royal Canal, des Grand Canal, der Barrow Line und der Schifffahrt auf den folgenden Fahrplan für die Wiedereröffnung der Schifffahrt hinweisen:
Nutzung der Navigation
Es ist wichtig zu verstehen, dass es einige Zeit dauern wird, alle Navigationen vollständig zu öffnen. Sie erfordert die Einführung neuer COVID-19-Verfahren und -Protokolle zur Einhaltung der Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsvorschriften. Dazu gehören das Management und die Minderung von Risiken, die Schulung des Personals und die Bereitstellung von Ressourcen für den Schutz des Personals und der Wasserstraßenbenutzer. Wir bitten alle unsere Bootsführer, sich weiterhin an die Vorschriften zu halten.
Wir raten den Bootsfahrern bei unseren ROI-Navigationen, dass:

- Die Schleusen der Shannon-Schifffahrt, der Shannon-Erne-Wasserstraße, des Royal Canal, des Grand Canal, der Barrow Line und der Schifffahrt werden am 8. Juni 2020 wieder geöffnet.
- Die Winteranlegemöglichkeiten wurden bis zum 20. Juli 2020 weiter ausgebaut, um den Druck auf unsere Schifffahrtsgemeinschaft zu verringern. Die Bootsfahrer müssen nicht reisen, um ihr Schiff zu bewegen. Für diese Verlängerung werden keine zusätzlichen Kosten anfallen;
- Die Schifffahrt ist im Umkreis von 5 km von Ihrem Wohnort geöffnet. Alle Serviceblöcke von Waterways Ireland sind geschlossen.
- Es ist bis auf weiteres verboten, mehr als 5 km (nur ROI) von Ihrem Wohnort entfernt zu fahren, um Schiffe zu kontrollieren, die an der Schifffahrt festgemacht haben;
- Unsere Treidelpfade bleiben offen und für örtliche Übungen zugänglich. Wir bitten jedoch die Benutzer unserer Kanal-Treidelpfade, deren Benutzung einzuschränken und nur Treidelpfade zu benutzen, die sich in unmittelbarer Nähe (5 km (ROI)) Ihres Wohnortes befinden.
ALLGEMEINE RICHTLINIEN (ALLE NAVIGATIONEN);
Navigationen:

- Strom- und Wasserversorgung sind wieder angeschlossen;
- Für Bootsfahrer stehen normale Abpumpanlagen zur Verfügung. Die Eigentümer müssen sicherstellen, dass die Anfahrt zu den Abpumpstationen auf verantwortungsbewusste Art und Weise erfolgt, wobei der Umfang der notwendigen Bewegungen auf dem Wasser so gering wie möglich gehalten werden muss;
- Wenn Sie sich auf Stegen aufhalten, achten Sie bitte auf andere Benutzer. Warten Sie oder gehen Sie zur Seite, damit andere in sicherem Abstand passieren können.
- Alle Serviceblöcke von Waterways Ireland sind geschlossen.
- Kanal-Treidelpfade und -Gänge
- Unser Appell an alle, die daran denken, unsere Treidelpfade zu benutzen, lautet:
- Halten Sie soziale Distanzierungsprotokolle ein – halten Sie einen Abstand von mindestens 2 m (6 Fuß) zu anderen Menschen ein;
- Benutzen Sie die Treidelpfade nur für kurze körperliche Übungen;
- Beschränken Sie die Nutzung – nehmen Sie nicht an körperlicher Aktivität auf Treidelpfaden teil, die das Potenzial für eine große Anzahl von Menschen haben, auf denen soziale Distanzierung nicht bequem zu beobachten ist;
- Bis zu vier Personen, die nicht demselben Haushalt angehören, können sich im Freien treffen und dabei strikte soziale Distanzierung wahren;
- Bleiben Sie in der Nähe Ihres Wohnortes (nur 5 km ROI);
- Da Treidelpfade an manchen Orten schmal sein können, sollten Sie, wenn Sie an jemandem vorbeigehen, darauf achten, dass Sie die volle Breite des Treidelpfades nutzen, in Bewegung bleiben und beiseite treten, um andere passieren zu lassen, wenn nötig in einer Reihe;
- Wenn Sie es nicht vermeiden können, ein festgemachtes Boot zu passieren, halten Sie sich bitte so weit wie möglich davon fern und gehen Sie schnell vorbei;
- Seien Sie achtsam und handeln Sie stets mit Rücksicht und Respekt und beachten Sie das Prinzip „keine Spuren hinterlassen“ und schützen Sie unsere Umwelt;
- Beachten Sie auf den Treidelpfaden alle Gesundheits-Etikette.
In allen Fällen muss stets sozialer Abstand gehalten werden, sowohl von anderen Menschen als auch von festgemachten Booten. Bitte wenden Sie sich an Ihr zuständiges Vertretungsorgan, um sich über die geeignetsten Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsvorkehrungen und Ratschläge zu informieren.
Wir sind uns bewusst, dass sich die Situation ständig ändert, und wir bitten Sie während dieser Zeit um Geduld. Jegliche Aktualisierungen der Situation werden über die Herausgabe von Mitteilungen für die Schifffahrt, über unsere Social Media-Kanäle und unsere Website von Waterways Ireland bekannt gegeben.
