Shannon Navigation, Shannon Erne Waterway, Grand Canal, Royal Canal, Barrow Line and Navigation

Reopening of navigations from Monday 10 May 2021
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all Masters of vessels and waterways users of the Shannon Navigation, Shannon Erne Waterway, Grand Canal, Royal Canal, Barrow Line and Navigation that the following reopening of facilities will occur on Monday 10 May 2021. This reopening of the navigations is in line with the Government of Ireland’s announcement made on 29th April 2021.

Shannon Navigation

• • Locks on the Shannon Navigation will be open normal Summer hours (9am to 8.30pm on weekdays and 9am – 6pm on Sunday).
  • The Winter mooring period will end.
  • The 5 day mooring rule will be in force.
  • Waterways Ireland service blocks will reopen.
  • No lock passage tolls will be collected in order to facilitate social distancing.

Shannon Erne Waterway

• • Locks on the Shannon Erne Waterway will be operating from 9am – 8pm daily.
  • Winter mooring period will end.
  • The 5 day mooring rule will be in force.
  • Waterways Ireland service blocks will reopen.
  • No lock passage tolls will be collected as no units shall be deducted from the smart card during a lock operation. A smart card is required to operate locks.
  • Please note, Waterway Patrollers will be unable to sell smart cards to our customers at this time. Smart cards are to be purchased in advanced of embarking on a journey. Smart Cards can be purchased on Waterways Ireland’s web shop or from designated retail outlets along the waterway.

Grand Canal, Royal Canal, Barrow Line and Navigation

• • The Lock will operate at normal Summer Hours.
  • As a cautionary note, water levels are becoming low due to the recent period of low rainfall. In addition, normal maintenance weed-cutting of navigation channels has been late in starting due to the ongoing restrictions, so additional weed growth can be expected in the navigation channels. Masters are asked to contact the local waterway patroller for updated information if wishing to navigate a particular area.

General information

• • · Electricity and water services have been reconnected on the navigations.
  • · Normal pump-out facilities are available for boaters. Owners must ensure that travel to pump-out facilities must be undertaken in a responsible manner.
  • · When on jetties please be aware of other users. Wait or move aside to allow others to pass at a safe distance.
  • · Observe social distancing protocols – keep a distance of at least 2m (6 feet) away from other people;
  • · Be mindful of others and act always with consideration and with respect and observe the leave no trace principles and protect our environment;
  • · Observe all health etiquettes when on the towpaths, at locks and when using lock consoles.
  • · In all instances, social distancing must be maintained at all times keeping your distance from both other people and moored boats.

We will continually review such measures in light of direction and advice from Government and health professionals and any decisions on service provision will be communicated via the issuance of Marine Notices.

Wiedereröffnung der Schifffahrtswege ab Montag, 10. Mai 2021

Waterways Ireland möchte alle Schiffsführer und Wasserstraßenbenutzer der Shannon Navigation, des Shannon Erne Waterway, des Grand Canal, des Royal Canal, der Barrow Line und der Navigation darauf hinweisen, dass am Montag, den 10. Mai 2021, die folgende Wiedereröffnung der Anlagen stattfindet. Diese Wiedereröffnung der Schifffahrtswege steht im Einklang mit der Ankündigung der irischen Regierung vom 29. April 2021.

Shannon-Navigation

• • Die Schleusen der Shannon Navigation werden zu den normalen Sommerzeiten geöffnet sein (werktags von 9 Uhr bis 20.30 Uhr und sonntags von 9 Uhr bis 18 Uhr).
  • Die Winterliegezeit wird beendet.
  • Die 5-Tage-Regel für das Anlegen wird in Kraft sein.
  • Die Serviceschleusen von Waterways Ireland werden wieder geöffnet.
  • Es werden keine Schleusengebühren erhoben, um den sozialen Abstand zu erleichtern.
  • Die Schleusenwärter von Shannon Navigation sind unter den oben genannten Nummern erreichbar.

Shannon Erne Wasserweg

• • Die Schleusen am Shannon Erne Waterway sind täglich von 9.00 – 20.00 Uhr in Betrieb.
  • Die Winterliegezeit wird beendet.
  • Die 5-Tage-Regel zum Anlegen ist in Kraft.
  • Die Service-Blöcke von Waterways Ireland werden wieder geöffnet.
  • Es werden keine Schleusengebühren erhoben, da während eines Schleusen-betriebs keine Einheiten von der Chipkarte abgezogen werden. Für den Betrieb von Schleusen ist eine Chipkarte erforderlich.
  • Bitte beachten Sie, dass die Waterway Patrollers zu diesem Zeitpunkt keine Smartcards an unsere Kunden verkaufen können. Smartcards müssen vor Antritt einer Fahrt erworben werden. Smart Cards können im Webshop von Waterways Ireland oder in ausgewiesenen Verkaufsstellen entlang der Wasserstraße erworben werden.

Grand Canal, Royal Canal, Barrow Line und Navigation

• • Die Schleuse wird zu den normalen Sommeröffnungszeiten betrieben.
  • Es wird darauf hingewiesen, dass der Wasserstand aufgrund der geringen Niederschläge in letzter Zeit niedrig ist. Außerdem hat die normale Wartung des Unkrautschneidens der Schifffahrtskanäle aufgrund der anhaltenden Einschränkungen verspätet begonnen, so dass mit zusätzlichem Unkrautwuchs in den Schifffahrtskanälen zu rechnen ist. Die Kapitäne werden gebeten, sich für aktuelle Informationen an den örtlichen Wasserswegpatroller zu wenden, wenn sie ein bestimmtes Gebiet befahren möchten.

Allgemeine Informationen

• • Die Strom- und Wasserversorgung in den Schifffahrtskanälen wurde wiederhergestellt.
  • Die normalen Abpumpeinrichtungen sind für Bootsfahrer verfügbar. Die Eigner müssen sicherstellen, dass die Fahrt zu den Auspumpanlagen auf verantwortungsvolle Weise durchgeführt wird.
  • Nehmen Sie an den Stegen bitte Rücksicht auf andere Benutzer. Warten Sie oder gehen Sie zur Seite, um anderen das Passieren in einem sicheren Abstand zu ermöglichen.
  • Halten Sie einen Abstand von mindestens 2 m zu anderen Personen ein;
  • Nehmen Sie Rücksicht auf andere und verhalten Sie sich stets rücksichtsvoll und respektvoll, beachten Sie die „Leave no trace“-Prinzipien und schützen Sie unsere Umwelt;
  • Beachten Sie auf den Treidelpfaden, an Schleusen und bei der Benutzung von Schleusenkonsolen alle gesundheitlichen Verhaltensregeln.
  • Halten Sie auf jeden Fall immer sozialen Abstand zu anderen Personen und zu festgemachten Booten.

Reopening of navigations from 03 December 2020

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all Masters of vessels and waterway users that the following reopening of facilities will occur on Thursday 03 December 2020.

Navigational Use

Shannon Navigation – Locks and Bridges will be open on Winter Hours. Times are available on the Waterways Ireland website. There continues to be no charge for Lock passage.

• • • Shannon Navigation – Vessels can avail of the Winter Moorings facility by applying online.
    • Shannon Erne Waterway – Locks will be open, operating Hours – 09:00hrs to 16:00hrs daily.
    • Shannon Navigation & Shannon- Erne Waterway – Waterways Ireland service blocks will re-open (only those that operate all year round)
    • Grand Canal / Royal Canal / Barrow Line & Navigation – Normal winter arrangements will apply.

General Guidelines

• • • Navigation remains open within your home county until 18 December. From 18th Dec to 6th Jan 2021 the navigation is open outside of your home county.
    • When on jetties please be aware of other users. Wait or move aside to allow others to pass at a safe distance.
    • Observe social distancing protocols – keep a distance of at least 2m (6 feet) away from other people;
    • Be mindful of others and act always with consideration and with respect and observe the leave no trace principles and protect our environment;
    • Observe all health etiquettes when on the towpaths.

In all instances, social distancing must be maintained keeping your distance from both other people and moored boats. Please refer to your relevant representative body for guidance on the most appropriate health and safety precautions and advice.

Wiedereröffnung der Schifffahrt ab 03. Dezember 2020

Waterways Ireland möchte alle Schiffskapitäne und Wasserstraßenbenutzer darauf hinweisen, dass die folgende Wiedereröffnung der Einrichtungen am Donnerstag, den 03. Dezember 2020 stattfinden wird.

Navigatorische Nutzung

Shannon Navigation – Schleusen und Brücken sind im Winter geöffnet. Die Öffnungszeiten sind auf der Website von Waterways Ireland verfügbar. Die Schleusendurchfahrt ist weiterhin kostenlos.

• • • Shannon Navigation – Schiffe können die Möglichkeit der Winteranlegeplätze nutzen, indem sie sich online anmelden.
    • Shannon Erne Waterway – Die Schleusen werden täglich von 09:00 Uhr bis 16:00 Uhr geöffnet sein.
    • Shannon Navigation & Shannon- Erne Waterway – Die Schleusen von Waterways Ireland werden wieder geöffnet (nur diejenigen, die das ganze Jahr über in Betrieb sind).
    • Grand Canal / Royal Canal / Barrow Line & Navigation – Es gelten die normalen Winterregelungen.

Allgemeine Richtlinien

• • • Die Navigation innerhalb Ihres Heimatbezirks bleibt bis zum 18. Dezember geöffnet. Vom 18. Dezember bis zum 6. Januar 2021 ist die Navigation auch außerhalb Ihres Heimatbezirks geöffnet.
    • Wenn Sie sich auf Landungsstegen befinden, achten Sie bitte auf andere Benutzer. Warten Sie oder gehen Sie zur Seite, damit andere in sicherer Entfernung passieren können.
    • Beachten Sie soziale Distanzierungsprotokolle – halten Sie einen Abstand von mindestens 2 m (6 Fuß) zu anderen Personen ein;
    • Seien Sie achtsam und handeln Sie immer mit Rücksicht und Respekt und beachten Sie das Prinzip „keine Spuren hinterlassen“ und schützen Sie unsere Umwelt;
    • Beachten Sie auf den Treidelpfaden alle Gesundheits-Etikette.

In allen Fällen muss die soziale Distanzierung gewahrt werden, indem man sowohl von anderen Menschen als auch von festgemachten Booten Abstand hält. COVID-19 Update 21 May 2020

Reopening of Navigations

With effect from 29 May 2020

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all Masters of vessels and water users on The Erne System, the Shannon Erne Waterway (within Northern Ireland) and the Lower Bann Navigation of the following notice in relation to the reopening of these navigations.

Within the last seventy two hours the Northern Ireland Executive has announced more easing of restrictions as part of its five-step roadmap to recovery. Waterways Ireland is now planning the phased reopening of The Erne System, the Shannon Erne Waterway (within Northern Ireland) and the Lower Bann Navigation. Waterways Ireland is currently finalising its roadmap and the phased return of our workforce. It is important to understand that it will take time to fully open the navigations. It requires the introduction of new COVID-19 procedures and protocols for compliance with Health and Safety legislation. This involves the management and mitigation of risk, training of staff and provision of resources for the protection of staff and waterway users. We expect our roadmap to be issued in the coming days. Based on the time to mobilise we expect these navigations to reopen on May 29th.

We will in the intervening days issue communications to all stakeholders to keep them advised of our plans which are based on guidance from Government and health professionals. We will continue to protect our staff, our waterways users and the wider community throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

Current Status:

Following government advice, angling and paddle sports for exercise can resume on your own or with members of your household but should not be over long distances. Private boaters undertaking short trips on the water should proceed with caution as the above navigations and associated facilities may require attention following the lockdown period. In all instances, social distancing must be maintained at all times keeping your distance from both other people and moored boats. We would particularly ask that users exercise caution during the imminent holiday weekend period. Please refer to your relevant representative body for guidance on the most appropriate health and safety precautions and advice.

From May 29th:

As indicated, it will take time to reopen the above navigations. We expect they will reopen on May 29th. Waterways Ireland’s locks and service blocks will remain closed in line with the five step roadmap to recovery. We recognise the situation is constantly changing. Updates in the intervening days prior to reopening will be communicated via the issuance of Marine Notices, through our Waterways Ireland Social Media channels and our website – www.waterwaysireland.org.

Navigational Use

We advise users on the above navigations that:

• • All Waterways Ireland locks and service blocks are closed and will remain closed in line with the five step roadmap to recovery.
  • Pump-out facilities are available for use. Owners must ensure that travel to pump-out facilities must be undertaken in a responsible manner minimising the amount of essential movement out on the water.
  • When on jetties please be aware of other users. Wait or move aside to allow others to pass at a safe distance.
  • Social distancing continues to be maintained with only members of your household permitted to go onboard your boat until further notice.
  • Refer to your relevant representative body for guidance on the most appropriate health and safety precautions and advice.

Waterways Ireland möchte alle Schiffskapitäne und Wassernutzer des Erne-Systems, des Shannon Erne Waterway (innerhalb Nordirlands) und der Lower Bann Navigation über die folgende Mitteilung in Bezug auf die Wiedereröffnung dieser Schifffahrtswege informieren.

Innerhalb der letzten zweiundsiebzig Stunden hat die nordirische Exekutive eine weitere Lockerung der Beschränkungen als Teil ihres Fünf-Schritte-Fahrplans zur Wiederherstellung angekündigt. Waterways Ireland plant nun die stufenweise Wiedereröffnung des Erne-Systems, des Shannon Erne Waterway (innerhalb Nordirlands) und der Lower Bann Navigation. Waterways Ireland schließt derzeit seinen Fahrplan und die schrittweise Rückkehr unserer Mitarbeiter ab. Es ist wichtig zu verstehen, dass es einige Zeit dauern wird, bis die Schifffahrtswege vollständig geöffnet sind. Sie erfordert die Einführung neuer COVID-19-Verfahren und -Protokolle zur Einhaltung der Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsvorschriften. Dazu gehören das Management und die Minderung von Risiken, die Schulung des Personals und die Bereitstellung von Ressourcen für den Schutz des Personals und der Wasserstraßenbenutzer. Wir gehen davon aus, dass unser Fahrplan in den kommenden Tagen veröffentlicht wird. Ausgehend von der Mobilisierungszeit erwarten wir die Wiedereröffnung dieser Wasserstraßen am 29. Mai.

In den dazwischen liegenden Tagen werden wir Mitteilungen an alle Interessengruppen herausgeben, um sie über unsere Pläne auf dem Laufenden zu halten, die auf der Anleitung von Regierungs- und Gesundheitsexperten beruhen. Wir werden unser Personal, unsere Wasserstrassennutzer und die breitere Öffentlichkeit während der COVID-19-Krise weiterhin schützen.

Aktueller Status:
Auf Anraten der Regierung kann das Angeln und der Paddelsport zu Übungszwecken allein oder mit Mitgliedern Ihres Haushalts wieder aufgenommen werden, sollte aber nicht über große Entfernungen ausgeübt werden. Private Bootsfahrer, die kurze Fahrten auf dem Wasser unternehmen, sollten mit Vorsicht vorgehen, da die oben genannten Navigationen und die dazugehörigen Einrichtungen nach der Sperrzeit möglicherweise Aufmerksamkeit erfordern. In allen Fällen muss stets sozialer Abstand gehalten werden, wobei sowohl von anderen Personen als auch von festgemachten Booten Abstand zu halten ist. Wir bitten insbesondere darum, dass die Benutzer während des bevorstehenden Feiertags-Wochenendes Vorsicht walten lassen. Bitte wenden Sie sich an Ihr zuständiges Vertretungsgremium, um sich über die am besten geeigneten Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsvorkehrungen und Ratschläge zu informieren.

Ab dem 29. Mai
Wie angegeben, wird es einige Zeit dauern, bis die oben genannten Navigationen wieder geöffnet werden. Wir gehen davon aus, dass sie am 29. Mai wieder geöffnet werden. Die Schleusen und Betriebssperren von Waterways Ireland werden im Einklang mit dem Fünf-Schritte-Fahrplan zur Wiederherstellung geschlossen bleiben. Wir sind uns bewusst, dass sich die Situation ständig ändert. Aktualisierungen in den Tagen vor der Wiedereröffnung werden über die Herausgabe von Mitteilungen für die Schifffahrt, über unsere sozialen Medienkanäle von Waterways Ireland und unsere Website – www.waterwaysireland.org – bekannt gegeben.

Nutzung der Schifffahrt
Wir raten den Benutzern der obigen Navigationen, dass:

• • Alle Schleusen und Betriebssperren von Waterways Ireland geschlossen sind und im Einklang mit dem Fünf-Schritte-Fahrplan zur Wiederherstellung geschlossen bleiben.
  • Abpumpanlagen stehen zur Nutzung zur Verfügung. Die Eigentümer müssen sicherstellen, dass die Anfahrt zu den Abpumpstationen auf verantwortungsbewusste Weise erfolgt, wobei der Umfang der notwendigen Bewegungen auf dem Wasser so gering wie möglich gehalten werden muss.
  • Wenn Sie sich auf Stegen aufhalten, achten Sie bitte auf andere Benutzer. Warten Sie oder gehen Sie zur Seite, damit andere in sicherem Abstand passieren können.
  • Der soziale Abstand wird aufrechterhalten, wobei bis auf weiteres nur Mitglieder Ihres Haushalts an Bord Ihres Bootes gehen dürfen.
  • Wenden Sie sich an Ihr zuständiges Vertretungsorgan, um sich über die geeignetsten Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsvorkehrungen und Ratschläge zu informieren.
