Aufgelaufen am Bonaveen Point

Sonntag den 16. Oktober ist ein 37ft Cruiser mit 5 Personen an Bord auf einen Felsen unter Wasser beim Bonaveen Point, in der Nähe Portumna, am nördlichen Ende des Lough Derg aufgelaufen.

Am 09:35 Uhr, war das Lough Derg RNLI Rettungsboot (mit Notfallpumpe) von der Valentia Küstenwache zur Unterstützung der Rettungsmaßnahmen von 5 Personen an Bord eines 37ft Cruiser angefordert worden. Der Wind kam aus Südwest mit Stärke von F3 in Böen bis 5 (9 knots Böen 18), die Sicht war sehr gut. Um 10:12 Uhr erreichte das Rettungsboot das aufgelaufene Boot, das nach Steuerbord auf dem Felsen lag. Es waren fünf Personen mit angelegten Rettungswesten an Bord, alle gesund und unversehrt. Zwei RNLI Besatzungsmitglieder gingen an Bord, um die Beschädigung des Schiffes zu beurteilen und stellten fest, dass das Boot Löcher und etliche Mengen Wasser aufgenommen hatte. Der Cruiser „Laura“ wartete auf Standby in Sichtweite, konnte aber nicht in die Nähe des Unfallbootes manövrieren, ohne in Gefahr zu geraten, selbst aufzulaufen. Es wurde beschlossen, alle Personen auf das Rettungsboot zu nehmen und nach Castle Harbour zu bringen, wo sie vom Rest ihrer Gruppe erwartet wurden. Das Rettungsboot dankte dem Kapitän der „Laura“ für das Beiseitestehen zur Sicherung.

Sunday October 16, Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat goes to the assistance of 5 persons on board a vessel on rocks and taking on water at Bonaveen Point, near Portumna, at the northern end of Lough Derg

At 09.35hrs Sunday October 16, Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat, Toshiba Wave Warrior, was requested by Valentia Coast Guard to go to the assistance of 5 persons, on board a 37ft cruiser on rocks and which was now taking on considerable amounts of water. The cruiser Laura was standing by, but was unable to get close to the casualty.
At 09.49hrs the lifeboat launched, with helm Eleanor Hooker, Peter Clarke and Colin Knight on board. The lifeboat carried its salvage pump. The wind was southwest, Force 3 to 4 gusting 5 (9knots gusting 18), with visibility very good.
At 10.12hrs the lifeboat was alongside the casualty vessel which was listing severely to starboard and on rocks. There were five persons on board, all safe and unharmed and wearing lifejackets. Two RNLI crew members went on board to assess damage to the vessel and, finding that she was holed and taking on water, it was decided to take all persons onto the lifeboat and transfer them to Castle Harbour where they were met by the rest of their group. The lifeboat thanked the skipper of Laura for standing by.

The lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service at 12midday.

Flow gates and Stop Logs in Killaloe Canal

The new flow gates in the Killaloe Canal are ready and the control panels are fully operational, although the system is not yet officially opened. The opening and closing of the gates are remotely operated by Waterways Ireland staff at Portumna swing bridge. If you want to go through or in the canal you have to use the call button and to speak with the operator. You have to insert a WI smart card and units will be reduced. CCTV cameras beside the gates are showing the whole procedure and the driving through in Portumna on-screen.

Strömungstore im Killaloe Kanal

Dieses Jahr wurden die Strömungstore im Killaloe Kanal gebaut. Die Anlage ist betriebsbereit, aber noch nicht offiziell eröffnet. Die Bedienung erfolgt von einem Mitarbeiter von Waterways Ireland von der Portumna Schwingbrücke aus. Der Bootsfahrer, der die Tore geöffnet haben will, betätigt eine Ruftaste und kann mit dem Mitarbeiter in Portumna sprechen. Für die Durchfahrt ist eine Smart card von Waterways Ireland notwendig, von der Einheiten (units) abgebucht werden. Den ganze Vorgang kann der WI-Mitarbeiter in Portumna visuell mit Hilfe von Videokameras kontrollieren.

Boot aufgelaufen bei Carrigahorig Bay Lough Derg

33ft Cruiser aufgelaufen bei Carrigahorig Bay

Am Samstag den 17. September 2011 kommt das Lough Derg Rettungsboot „Toshiba Wave Warrior“ zwei Personen zu Hilfe, die an Bord eines 33ft Cruiser bei Carrigahorig Bay, in der Nähe Portumna, am nördlichen Ende des Lough Derg auf Felsen aufgelaufen sind. Das Boot hatte bereits erhebliche Mengen an Wasser aufgenommen.
Da die mitgeführte Pumpe des Rettungsbootes es nicht schaffte das Wasser aus dem Boot zu fördern, wurde eine zweite Pumpe aus Portumna über Strassentransport besorgt.
Der Einsatz der beiden Pumpen reichte jedoch nicht aus das Boot wieder schwimmfähig zu machen, deshalb entschloß das Rettungsteam aus Portumna eine noch stärkere Pumpe zu besorgen. Da dieses auch nicht den gewünschten Erfolg brachte, wurden die beiden Besatzungsmitglieder vom RNLI Rettungsboot nach Portumna gebracht.
Der Eigentümer will sein Boot bei Tageslicht wieder flott zu machen.

Saturday September 17, Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat goes to the assistance of two persons on board a vessel on Rocks and taking on water at Carrigahorig Bay, near Portumna, at the northern end of Lough Derg

At 17.44hrs Saturday September 17, Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat, Toshiba Wave Warrior, was requested by Valentia Coast Guard to go to the assistance of 1 person, on board a 33ft cruiser on rocks after suffering engine failure, and which was now taking on considerable amounts of water. Mathew Gallagher, skipper of Aftermath was standing by, but was unable to get close to the casualty.
At 17.54hrs the lifeboat, with helm Eleanor Hooker, Colin Knight and Ger Egan was launched. The lifeboat carried its salvage pump, and in addition, Lifeboat Operations Manager, Charles Stanley-Smith made contact with Fergal Kerney, Lifeboat Deputy Launching Authority, who agreed to take a second salvage pump to Portumna by road.
At 18.15hrs the lifeboat was alongside the casualty vessel which was listing to port and on rocks. There were two persons on board (the skipper has been joined by a friend, a marine mechanic). The lifeboat transferred an RNLI crew member and the salvage pump to the casualty vessel and the lifeboat salvage pump was immediately put to work. The cruiser Aftermath met Fergal Kerney and took him to the scene.
At 18.21hrs the lifeboat transferred the second salvage pump to the casualty vessel, set up a tow and held off head to weather.
At 19.25, (it was now dusk) and with two pumps running, the vessel was not floated.
At 19.34hrs, RNLI Lifeboat helm agreed one last attempt to float the vessel before taking all persons off. Eamon Egan, Marine Engineer, brought a third, larger pump to the vessel from Portumna.

Motorschaden auf Lough Derg

Mit Motorschaden auf Lough Derg

Am am Freitag den 16. September trieben 3 Personen an Bord eines 28ft Motorbootes mit Motorschaden hilflos auf Lough Derg nahe der Mountaineer Boje. Bei Wind aus West/Südwest mit Stärke 4, wurde die Sicht wegen zunehmender Dunkelheit schlechter. Nach Driften über einige Distanz hatte der Skipper den Anker gesetzt um ein auf Grund laufen zu vermeiden.
Das Rettungsboot entdeckte sie hinter den Carrigeen Islands nahe des Ufers auf der Westseite Höhe Dromman Harbour. Die drei Personen an Bord waren alle wohlauf, und trugen ihre Rettungswesten. Das RNLI-Rettungsboot schleppte das Boot nach Dromineer Harbour.

*At 19.31 on Friday September 16, Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat, Toshiba Wave Warrior, was requested by Valentia Coast Guard to go to the assistance of 3 persons on board a 28ft motor boat that had suffered engine failure and was adrift on Lough Derg, close to the Mountaineer buoy. *

*At 19.31hrs the lifeboat launched with helm Eleanor Hooker, Ger Egan and Ben Roynane on board. Winds were west south-west, Force 4, visibility was fair with darkness falling. After drifting for some distance, the skipper had dropped anchor to prevent being grounded. They were located by the lifeboat behind the Carrigeen Islands, close to the County Clare Shore. The three persons on board were all safe and wearing lifejackets. The lifeboat was alongside the casualty vessel, a 28ft motor boat at 19.50hrs. With an RNLI crew member on board, a tow line was set up. The anchor was held fast and given the conditions and nightfall, it was left behind. The vessel was towed to Dromineer Harbour and tied up safely alongside at 20.40hrs. The lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service again at 21.00hrs.
