MARINE NOTICE, No. 082 of 2015

Athlone

Sat 4th and Sun 5th July 2015

Navigation Restrictions -Triathlone Triathlon Event

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels of the timings of the swim elements of the above event when navigation will be temporarily closed from the M6 by-pass bridge to Athlone Lock.

      • Sat 4 July 1715 hrs to 1745hrs (East bank south of Town Bridge only)      1830 hrs to 2030hrs
      • Sun 5 July 1130hrs to 1400hrs

Masters of vessels are requested to keep a sharp look-out for swimmers in the water at all times, proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in this section of the navigation and note any advice from safety boat officials.
Masters should further note that berthing south of the Town Bridge on the East bank will be limited to a small number of vessels to facilitate swimmers as they approach the exit ramp.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the Lough Derg Rally 40 will take place from Sat 11 to Sat 18 Jul 2015 and intends to visit the following harbours on these dates:

      • Saturday 11th Dromaan
      • Sunday 12th Dromaan
      • Monday 13th Terryglass
      • Tuesday 14th Terryglass
      • Wednesday 15th Anchor out
      • Thursday 16th Shannon Bridge
      • Friday 17th Athlone
      • Saturday 18th Athlone

Triathlon

Triathlon Event  Sat 4th and Sun 5th July 2015, 

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels of the preliminary timings of the swim elements of the above event when navigation restrictions will be in place from the M6 by-pass bridge to Athlone Lock:

  • Sat 4 July 17hrs to 2030hrs
  • Sun 5 July 1130hrs to 1500hrs

A further Marne Notice will issue with definitive timings nearer the date. Masters of vessels are requested to keep a sharp look-out for swimmers in the water , proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in this section of the navigation and note any advice from safety boat officials.

Lough Ree – Athlone

Coosan Point

Triathlon Swim Training Course.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that a Triathlon Swim Training Course is presently laid out at Coosan Point, Athlone for the summer period.
The 750m course is set out just south of the Waterways Ireland moorings and is marked by three large orange buoys.
The course will be active daily when a Yellow flag is flown from a mast located on the foreshore during the following times:
0800 to 1000hrs
1230 to 1400 hrs
1700 to 2030 hrs
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when passing the course and to note any advice given by safety boat marshals accompanying swimmers.
