Fallen Tree near Henry Bridge

Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels passaging the Grand Canal of a fallen tree blocking the Canal between Henry Bridge and Lock 13. Waterways Ireland will remove it at the earliest opportunity.
Precautionary Advice

1. 1. Following the weekend of high winds and storm conditions, masters of vessels are advised to check vessels and moorings as an inherent precautionary measure.
  2. Members of the public are also asked to report storm damage to Waterways Ireland by:

Waterways Ireland weist die Kapitäne von Schiffen, die den Grand Canal befahren, darauf hin, dass ein umgestürzter Baum den Kanal zwischen der Henry Bridge und Schleuse 13 blockiert. Waterways Ireland wird diesen so bald wie möglich beseitigen.
Vorsorgliche Hinweise

1. 1. Nach dem Wochenende mit starken Winden und Sturmbedingungen wird den Schiffsführern empfohlen, ihre Schiffe und Liegeplätze als Vorsichtsmaßnahme zu überprüfen.
  2. Die Öffentlichkeit wird ebenfalls gebeten, Sturmschäden an Waterways Ireland zu melden, und zwar über:

Grand Canal Lock-31

Navigation Advisory

Issued: 25 April 2026

Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels that repair works to the land tunnels at Lock 31 on the Grand Canal will take place from 27 April to 30 April 2026. Lock 31, also referred to as Larkins Lock, situated midway between Tullamore and Ballycumber.
There are currently no known movements expected in the area; however, passage through the lock can be facilitated if urgently required.
Masters wishing to transit Lock 31 during this period are requested to notify to Waterways Ireland Water Patroller; however, this will require removal of stoplogs to accommodate vessel passage where necessary.

Grand Canal – Lock 31, Navigationshinweis, herausgegeben am 25. April 2026.
Waterways Ireland informiert Schiffsführer darüber, dass vom 27. bis 30. April 2026 Reparaturarbeiten an den Landtunneln der Schleuse 31 am Grand Canal stattfinden . Die Schleuse 31, auch bekannt als Larkins-Schleuse, befindet sich auf halber Strecke zwischen Tullamore und Ballycumber.
Derzeit sind keine Schiffsbewegungen in diesem Bereich zu erwarten; die Schleusung kann jedoch bei dringendem Bedarf passiert werden.
Schiffsführer, die die Schleuse 31 während dieses Zeitraums passieren möchten, werden gebeten, dies dem zuständigen Mitarbeiter von Waterways Ireland zu melden. Gegebenenfalls müssen hierfür die Dammbalken entfernt werden, um die Schiffsdurchfahrt zu ermöglichen.
Waterways Ireland bedauert die entstandenen Unannehmlichkeiten und dankt allen Nutzern für ihre Kooperation.

Grand Canal – Shannon Harbour

Jetty Navigation Restriction

Issued: 25 April 2026

Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels that a temporary restriction to navigation will be in place at Shannon Harbour from 27 April to 1 May 2026.
This restriction is necessary to facilitate ongoing bank works. A silt curtain will be installed at either end of the new jetty to contain disturbed material during the works.
Masters requiring passage through the area are requested to liaise with the on-site contractors and the local Lock Keeper in advance. When vessels need to pass, the silt curtains can be temporarily drawn back to the bank and reinstated once passage is complete.
Water levels in the area remain lowered; however, navigation is not currently impeded.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks all waterway users for their cooperation.

Grand Canal – Shannon Harbour Jetty Navigationsbeschränkung, Ausgestellt: 25. April 2026
Waterways Ireland rät den Kapitän von Schiffen, dass von 27. April bis 1. Mai 2026 eine vorübergehende Einschränkung der Schifffahrt in Shannon Harbour gelten wird.
Diese Einschränkung ist notwendig, um die laufende Bankarbeit zu erleichtern. An beiden Enden des neuen Stegs wird ein Schlammvorhang installiert, um während der Arbeiten gestörtes Material zu enthalten. Der Wasserstand in der Region wird gesenkt, aber die Navigation ist derzeit nicht betroffen.
Master, die durch das Gebiet gehen müssen, werden gebeten, sich im Voraus mit den Auftragnehmern vor Ort und dem örtlichen Schleusenwärter in Verbindung zu setzen. Wenn Schiffe passieren müssen, können die Schlammvorhänge vorübergehend zur Bank zurückgezogen und nach Abschluss des Durchgangs wieder eingesetzt werden.
Waterways Ireland bedauert jegliche Unannehmlichkeiten und dankt allen Wasserstraßennutzern für ihre Zusammenarbeit.

Vicarstown Canal Re-opening

Issued: 01 April 2026

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise customers that following extensive rebuilding and renovation works to Vicarstown Harbour walls:

- - The Canal at Vicarstown will re-open to boat traffic and vessels will be permitted through Vicarstown from 9am on Friday 3rd April.
  - The Blueway at Vicarstown Quay will re-open from 9am on Friday 3rd April.
  - Vessels moored in Vicarstown will be permitted to return to soft bank moorings from Friday 3rd April.

Works will continue on the new quaysides for a further 2 weeks, installing additional water taps, cleats and landscaping. To facilitate these works all hard-edge moorings in Vicarstown, north and south of Vicarstown Bridge, will remain out of service until Saturday 18th April.

Wiedereröffnung des Vicarstown-Kanals,Ausgestellt: 1. April 2026
Waterways Ireland möchte seine Kunden darauf hinweisen, dass nach umfangreichen Umbau- und Sanierungsarbeiten an den Hafenmauern von Vicarstown:

- - Der Kanal bei Vicarstown wird wieder für den Schiffsverkehr freigegeben, und Schiffe dürfen ab Freitag, dem 3. April, ab 9 Uhr durch Vicarstown fahren.
  - Der Blueway am Vicarstown Quay wird am Freitag, dem 3. April, ab 9 Uhr wieder geöffnet.
  - In Vicarstown festgemachte Schiffe dürfen ab Freitag, dem 3. April, wieder an den Weichland-Liegeplätzen anlegen.

Die Arbeiten an den neuen Kais werden noch zwei weitere Wochen andauern, wobei zusätzliche Wasserhähne und Klampen installiert sowie Landschafts- gestaltungsarbeiten durchgeführt werden. Um diese Arbeiten zu ermöglichen, bleiben alle festen Anlegestellen in Vicarstown, nördlich und südlich der Vicarstown-Brücke, bis Samstag, den 18. April, außer Betrieb.
Waterways Ireland dankt seinen Kunden für ihre Zusammenarbeit in dieser Angelegenheit.

Grand Canal

Temporary Closure at Lock C1

Issued Monday 11 February 2026

Waterways Ireland informs Masters of vessels on the Grand Canal that Lock C1 is closed with immediate effect and will remain closed until further notice.
The closure is necessary to facilitate an engineering assessment of the Lock C1 breast gate cill and to enable any subsequent repair works deemed necessary.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused to its customers as a result of these essential works.
Impacted boaters have been contacted directly. A further update will issue once the assessment has been completed.

Vorübergehende Sperrung der Schleuse C1, herausgegeben am Montag, 11. Februar 2026
Waterways Ireland informiert die Kapitäne von Schiffen auf dem Grand Canal, dass die Schleuse C1 mit sofortiger Wirkung gesperrt ist und bis auf Weiteres geschlossen bleibt.
Die Sperrung ist notwendig, um eine technische Begutachtung des Schleusentors der Schleuse C1 zu ermöglichen und gegebenenfalls erforderliche Reparaturarbeiten durchzuführen.
Waterways Ireland bedauert die Unannehmlichkeiten, die seinen Kunden durch diese notwendigen Arbeiten entstehen.
Die betroffenen Bootsfahrer wurden direkt kontaktiert. Weitere Informationen werden nach Abschluss der Begutachtung bekannt gegeben.
