Waterways Ireland has been advised that a red porthand buoy has been sighted grounded near Tinker Point on the western tip of Illaunmore island. Its previous position has yet to be identified.
Masters are requested to navigate with due caution in this area of Lough Derg until the buoy has been repositioned.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters that a green coloured buoy marking the Defence Forces firing range situated immediately north of Cribby Islands on Lough Ree has broken its mooring and drifted north in the direction of Warren Point where it is reported aground.
Masters are requested to keep a good look-out when in this part of the navigation in case the buoy continues to drift further.

Waterways Ireland has been informed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) of its intention to conduct flow measurements in Athlone and Banagher between Wed 13 and Thurs 21 Mar 2013. The measuring instrument will be lowered from the bridge to the river and then moved laterally across the bridge arches to take the measurements. The procedure will only take a matter of minutes at each arch. Masters approaching the navigation arch of these bridges should be prepared to stop short and await instructions from OPW staff as to when it is safe to proceed through the arch. Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels and boats that Sarsfield’s Lock will be operated on restricted service from Thurs 28th Feb to Sat 9th Mar 2013. During this time the lock will operate from 10am to 12.30pm daily.
Masters and owners are requested to ring the lockkeeper on 353 (0)87 7972998 one day prior to making their passage.

Der Woodford River am Lough Derg ist ein Fluss, dessen Navigation nicht von Waterways Ireland unterhalten wird. Jahrelang kümmert sich die Lough Derg Branch der IWAI (Inland Waterways Association of Ireland) darum, den River für Boote befahrbar zu machen und zu halten. Für Mietboote ist das Befahren des Woodford River nicht gestattet, es sei denn, man erhält von seinem Vermieter die Erlaubnis. Captain’s Handbook hat im Jahr 2010 den Woodford River befahren und 2011 an der Lough Derg Branch Work Party teilgenommen.
Auch wenn man die Erlaubnis hat, ist es jedoch zwingend erforderlich, sich kurz vorher über den Zustand der Navigation zu erkundigen, da der Zustand des Flusses und die Navigationsbedingungen sich geändert haben könnten. Aktuell fehlt eine Boje, die ein kleineres Hindernis markiert hatte.
