Lough Derg- Illaunmore

Navigation Hazard

Waterways Ireland has received a report that there is a 2 inch (50mm) steel bar sticking out of the water by about 4 inches (100mm), approximately two thirds of the way along a direct line between the eastern end of “Yellow Island” (the largest island on the northern side of Illaunmore) and Curraghmore Point (the nearest point of land to the north of Illanunmore).
This location appears to be in an area marked unsuitable for navigation, however, until such time as the report can be verified; masters are requested to keep a sharp look-out for this hazard when navigating in the vicinity of Illaunmore.

Limerick – Sarsfield’s Lock

Navigation Hazard

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that sheets of corrugated iron roofing material are lying on the bottom of the lay-by quay immediately downstream of Sarsfield’s Lock , Limerick.
Boats and vessels manoeuvring in the quay area especially at or near low water should be mindful of this hazard and proceed at slow speed and with due caution.

MARINE NOTICE, No. 53 of 2014

Limerick – Sarsfield’s Lock

Marine Notice No 48 of 2014 is withdrawn and replaced by this Notice.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels and boats that Sarsfield’s Lock will be operated on restricted service from Thurs 22nd May to Fri 30th May 2014. During this time the lock will operate from 9am to 4:30pm daily.
Masters and owners are requested to ring the lockkeeper on 353 (0)87 7972998 one day prior to making their passage.

Triathlon Event – Swimming Element – Sat 7 Jun 2014

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and users of the Shannon Navigation that a triathlon event will take place on Sat 7 Jun in the environs of Portrunny harbour and that the swimming course will be laid out adjacent to the moorings.
The course will be active from 11.30 a.m until 1 p.m
Swimmers on the course they will be accompanied by a safety boat and kayaks .
Masters are requested to give swimmers a wide berth and to navigate at slow speed and with a low wash when passing the area and to heed any instructions or advice given by the event marshals.

Lough Ree – Killinure Lough

Athlone Boat Club Regatta

Masters and users of the Shannon Navigation are advised that the Athlone Boat Club rowing regatta will take place on Sat 14th June from 0800 hrs until 1900 hrs, on Killinure Lough.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in this area to avoid any upset to rowing craft which have only a small amount of freeboard.
Masters are further requested to note any advice given by race marshals when approaching the course.
Laying and removal of the course will take place between 9th and 18th Jun.
