Grand, Royal Canals and Barrow Navigation
Planned Winter Closures 2014- 2015
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise Masters and owners of vessels that the following planned closures will be in place for the winter of 2014-2015.
Grand Canal – Main Line | |
Sallins, Co. Kildare | The canal and the public jetty have opened following recent construction works. The longer-term moorings will remain closed until the services are available at this jetty |
Lock 29, Ballycowan to Lock 30, Rahan | Closed from 13th October 2014 to late December 2014 for structural repairs to Charleville Aqueduct. |
Grand Canal – Barrow Line | |
Glenaree Bridge to Rathangan Bridge | Closed from 28th October 2014 to early January 2015 for winter dredging. |
Spencer Bridge to Wilson Bridge | Closed from January 2015 to mid March 2015 for winter dredging. |
Vicarstown | Closed from 29th October to end of November 2014 for essential repairs to Vicarstown Bridge. |
Royal Canal | |
Spencer Dock, Newcomen Bridge | There will be no further lifts of Newcomen railway bridge until the 2015 boating season. |
1st Level, Portland Place | Structural repairs to the towpath will be undertaken from the end of October 2014 to late December 2014 – the canal will be closed for the duration of the works. |
35th Level, Balroe, Co. Westmeath | Closed from 13th October 2014 until further notice for essential construction works. |
Barrow Navigation | |
Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow | Closed at Bagenalstown mid March for essential repairs. |
