„PHIZZFEST“ 3rd and 4th MAY 2015

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that „PHIZZFEST“ will take place on the Royal Canal at Phibsborough between Lock No. 4 and Lock No. 6 between the hours of 10:00hrs and 18:00hrs on 3rd and 4th May 2015.
Masters and owners of vessels operating in the area should heed advice from event marshals.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that National Course Fishing Federation of Ireland will be holding an angling event in the Daingean area between 2nd and 3rd May 2015.

Athy Dragon Boat Regatta – 3 May 2015

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that there will be a regatta of DRAGON BOATS in Athy on 3 May 2015 between 08:30hrs and 18:30hrs.
Masters and owners of vessels operating in the area should refrain from entering the race course and comply with guidance instructions from race officials.

Protection of Protected Bird Species

Waterways Ireland has been advised that rare and protected birds are present and breeding in the vicinity of Portumna Forest Park, which is between Bonaveen Point and Silver Islands.
Masters should note that this area is deemed „Non-navigable “ per the Shannon Navigation Guide and should remain in the navigation channel at all times nor attempt a passage in small craft such as a dinghy or canoe into the area, in the interest of protecting and minimising disturbance to these nesting birds between now and the 31 August
Masters are also advised that deliberate disturbance to nesting birds and their habitat is illegal under the Wildlife Act (1976).
