Castle Island RNLI Charity Swim

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that a charity swim will take place on:

Sun 13th Aug in the vicinity of Castle Island, Enniskillen during the period 1200hrs to 1600hrs. Masters of vessels are requested to note the advice and directions of swim marshals when in this area of the navigation and proceed with minimum wash.

Clondara and Richmond Harbour

Snorkel Rally.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that the Clondara Snorkel Rally will take place on Sat 19th. Aug 2017 from 1400hrs to1500hrs between Clondara Bridge and Richmond Harbour.

Navigation will be restricted during this time while there are snorkelers in the water.

Masters are requested to note safety advice from event marshals and to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when approaching the area.

Limerick – Sarsfield’s Lock

Opening Schedule

Waterways Ireland wishes advise masters and owners of vessels that Marine Notice No 74 is withdrawn and replaced by this Notice, with a revised schedule. The lock keeper can be contacted at the following number 087-7972998 only during the hours of operation as shown below.

Fri 4th August 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Tue 15th August 10:00am – 1:00pm
Fri 18th August 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Tue 29th August 10:00am – 1:00pm

Masters are advised to contact the ESB Ardnacrusha hydroelectric power station (00353 (0)87 9970131) 48 hours in advance of commencing their journey to book passage through the locks at Ardnacrusha.

It is advised NOT to undertake a voyage if more than one turbine is operating (20MW), due to the increased velocity of flow in the navigation channel, which can be dangerous. To ascertain automatically in real time how many turbines are running, users can phone 00353 (0)87 6477229.

Bridges Underwater Inspections

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that underwater inspections, by divers, will take place on Portumna Bridge on Wednesday 2nd August and on Tarmonbarry Bridge and Carrick-on -Shannon Bridge on Thursday 3rd August
Masters of vessels are requested to follow instructions and directions issued by the safety boat monitoring the divers and to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in the vicinity of the bridges while these operations are taking place.

White Railway Bridge

Removal of Overhead Power Lines

Waterways Ireland has been notified by ESB Networks and wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the overhead power lines immediately North of the white railway bridge in Athlone are to be removed.
The work is scheduled for the period 21st. to 25th. August, it is expected that navigation will only be interrupted for a number of hours on one of these dates.
A safety boat will be in attendance and masters are requested to note any directions issued by safety marshals overseeing the work.
