Tarmonbarry, Rooskey & Begnagh Bridges

LONGFORD MARATHON

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all Masters and users that in order to facilitate the annual Longford marathon road race on Sun 30 Aug 2015 lifting bridge operations will be restricted accordingly.

The following air draft restrictions will apply to the lifting bridges, which will be closed during the time periods indicated below.

Shannon Navigation – Rooskey Bridge (1045 hrs to 1245 hrs)
The air draft at Roosky Bridge at Ordinary Summer Level is 10ft (3.025m). There is an air draft gauge erected at the bridge on both Upper and Lower approaches. The Lock keeper can be contacted during lock opening hours at 00 353 (0)71 96 38018 for further information.

Shannon Navigation – Tarmonbarry Bridge (1015 hrs to 1215 hrs)
The air draft at Tarmonbarry at Ordinary Summer Level is 7’9″ (2.35m). The Lock keeper can be contacted during lock opening hours at 00 353 (0)43 3326117 or (0)87 9222020 for further information.

Royal Canal – Begnagh Bridge The bridge will be closed from 0900hrs to 1015 hrs. The Lock keeper may be contacted on 00 353 (0)87 9151400.

Sat 13 and Sun 14 June 2015 Kidathon and Triathlon Event

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the waiting jetty south of Tarmonbarry Lock and the lock itself will be unavailable on Sat 13 Jun from 1800hrs until 1900hrs to facilitate the above events.
Further the swim element of the above event will take place immediately downstream of the lock on Sun 14 June from 1030hrs until 1100hrs.The lock will be closed during this period.
Also the N5 road lifting bridge will be unavailable to boat traffic between 1040hrs and 1240hrs. Masters may wish to consider the Camlin river as a alternative route.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when approaching this section of the river from downstream and be prepared to anchor and also heed any instructions issued by the event marshals and in particular to keep a look-out for swimmers in the water.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the swim element of the above event will take place immediately downstream of the lock on Wed 3 June from 1900hrs until 1945hrs.The lock will be closed during this period.

Shannon Blueway Camlin Loop – Opening

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the „Shannon Blueway Camlin Loop“ at Tarmonbarry will be opened on Fri 24 Apr and that there will be water based activities taking place through to Sun 26 Apr.
Masters are requested to note the advice of safety boat stewards and organisers in charge of these activities should they transit on this stretch of the navigation.
Direct passage on the main navigation is more advisable unless making for Clondra / Richmond harbour.
