Tarmonbarry, Rooskey & Begnagh Bridges

Longford Maraton

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all Masters and users that in order to facilitate the annual Longford marathon road race on Sun 24 Aug 2014 lifting bridge operations will be restricted accordingly.
The following air draft restrictions will apply to the lifting bridges, which will be closed during the time periods indicated below.

  • Shannon Navigation – Rooskey Bridge (10.45 hrs to 12.45 hrs)
    The air draft at Roosky Bridge at Ordinary Summer Level is 10ft (3.025m). There is an air draft gauge erected at the bridge on both Upper and Lower approaches. The Lock keeper can be contacted during lock opening hours at 00 (0)71 96 38018 for further information.
  • Shannon Navigation – Tarmonbarry Bridge (10.15 hrs to 12.15 hrs)
    The air draft at Tarmonbarry at Ordinary Summer Level is 7’9″ (2.35m). The Lock keeper can be contacted during lock opening hours at 00 (0)43 3326117 or 087-9222020 for further information.
  • Royal Canal – Begnagh Bridge
    The bridge will be closed from 0900hrs to 1030 hrs. The Lock keeper may be contacted on 00-(0)87-9151400.

Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when approaching swimmers in the water.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters and users of the Royal Canal that a canoe polo competition will take place between the 5th and 6th lock on the Royal Canal, Dublin on Sat 9th Aug 2014.
Masters are requested to note any advice issued by safety marshals while the event is in progress.

Waterways Ireland Riverfest, Sat 9th and Sun 10th Aug 2014

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters and users of the Lower Bann Navigation that the above event will take place along the stretch of navigation between Coleraine Town Bridge and Mountsandel bridge in the vicinity of Christie Park moorings from 11am until 6.30pm on both days.
Masters are requested to transit this area at slow speed and with minimum wash during the event and to heed the advice and instructions of those marshalling the activities.
Waterways Ireland takes this opportunity to thank its customers for their co-operation in this matter and regrets any inconvenience caused.
