Shannon Navigation and Grand Canal

Shannon Harbour to Banagher

Sun 12 July 2015, Fin Swim

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the 2015 Shannonside Sub Aqua Fin Swim takes places from Shannon Harbour, Grand Canal to Banagher slipway on Sun 12 July commencing at 1330hrs and finishing at 1630hrs.

Masters of vessels are requested to keep a sharp look-out for swimmers in the water , proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in this section of the navigation and note any advice from safety boat officials.

Underwater Bridge Inspection

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that an underwater inspection of the Lanesborough – Ballyleague bridge will take place on Mon 15 and Tues 16 Jun between 1200hrs and 1400hrs daily. A temporary closure of the navigation will be in force at these times.
International Code Flag „Alpha“ will be placed upstream and downstream of the bridge, and buoys will be placed across the span both upstream and downstream also. A dive tender will be in attendance and on the lookout for approaching vessels. In the event of an approaching vessel not appearing to slow down or take avoiding action, a horn will be sounded and a member of the safety team will approach the boat to give warning.

Sat 13 and Sun 14 June 2015 Kidathon and Triathlon Event

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the waiting jetty south of Tarmonbarry Lock and the lock itself will be unavailable on Sat 13 Jun from 1800hrs until 1900hrs to facilitate the above events.
Further the swim element of the above event will take place immediately downstream of the lock on Sun 14 June from 1030hrs until 1100hrs.The lock will be closed during this period.
Also the N5 road lifting bridge will be unavailable to boat traffic between 1040hrs and 1240hrs. Masters may wish to consider the Camlin river as a alternative route.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when approaching this section of the river from downstream and be prepared to anchor and also heed any instructions issued by the event marshals and in particular to keep a look-out for swimmers in the water.
