Industrial Action

Impact on Navigation Services

Waterways Ireland has received official notification from FÓRSA and SIPTU of planned industrial action for Wednesday 21 October 2026.
If this industrial action goes ahead Waterways Ireland-operated locks and lifting bridges on the Shannon, Shannon-Erne Waterway, Grand Canal and Royal Canal as well as the Barrow Navigation will not be operational on Wednesday 21 October 2026.
Masters of vessels are advised to take this into account when planning their journeys and to allow additional time for passage on adjacent days, should the industrial actions proceed.
Waterways Ireland recognises the potential disruption this may cause to boaters and will provide further information should the position change.

Waterways Ireland hat von FÓRSA und SIPTU eine offizielle Mitteilung über geplante Arbeitskampfmaßnahmen für Mittwoch, den 21. Oktober 2026, erhalten.
Sollten diese Arbeitskampfmaßnahmen stattfinden, werden die von Waterways Ireland betriebenen Schleusen und Hubbrücken am Shannon, am Shannon-Erne-Wasserstraße, am Grand Canal und am Royal Canal sowie an der Barrow-Navigation am Mittwoch, dem 21. Oktober 2026, nicht in Betrieb sein.
Schiffskapitänen wird empfohlen, dies bei der Planung ihrer Fahrten zu berücksichtigen und an den angrenzenden Tagen zusätzliche Zeit für die Durchfahrt einzuplanen, falls die Arbeitskampfmaßnahmen stattfinden sollten.
Waterways Ireland ist sich der möglichen Beeinträchtigungen für Bootsfahrer bewusst und wird weitere Informationen bereitstellen, sollte sich die Lage ändern.
