Masters and users of the Shannon Navigation are advised that the Lough Derg Sprint Triathlon will take place on Sat 16th June from 0900 hrs until 1300 hrs at Dromineer, Co Tipperary.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and due care when in the vicinity of the event.
Masters are further requested to note any advice given by race marshals when approaching the course.

Masters and users of the Shannon Navigation are advised that the Athlone Boat Club rowing regatta will take place:
on Sat 16th June from 0800 hrs until 1900 hrs, on Killinure Lough.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in this area to avoid any upset to rowing craft which have a small amount of freeboard.
Masters are further requested to note any advice given by race marshals when approaching the course.
Laying and removal of the course will take place between 11th and 16th June.

Die Kapitäne und Benutzer der Shannon Navigation werden darauf hingewiesen, dass die Ruderregatta des Athlone Boat Club am 16. Juni von 8.00 bis 19.00 Uhr auf dem Killinure Lough stattfinden wird. Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels that the swim element of the triathlon event will take place in Tarmonbarry on Sunday 10th June 2018 between 0930hrs and 1200hrs. Tarmonbarry lock will be closed to traffic during this time.
Tarmonator Triathlon 2019 – Longford Triathlon Club
Note that the N5 Shannon lifting bridge will also be closed during this time requiring large airdraft vessels to berth north of the bridge for the period.
A children’s swimming event will take place at 1800hrs on Saturday 9th June in Tarmonbarry, this event will not affect vessels in the navigation.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when approaching this section of the river and heed any instructions issued by the event marshals.

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise the public on the dangers of swimming and diving in and around navigation infrastructure such as bridges, locks, weirs, pontoons and harbour jetties.
The possibility of a swimmer being struck by a vessel, its propeller or being run over is ever present while powered craft are manoeuvring at such locations.
Swimming is therefore prohibited at these locations.
Opening Water Swimming
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all participants engaged in open water swimming training of the inherent dangers attached to this activity in locations where there is boating traffic.
A swimmer in the water wearing high visibility head gear will always remain a very small target to see to the master of a powered craft particularly if:
the water surface is choppy
there is strong glare reflected from the water surface
there is difficulty in sighting due to slanting sunshine in early morning or late evening
visibility is poor due to fog, mist or rain
Swimmers should risk assess their swimming location prior to entering the water, for boat traffic, entry and exit locations, availability of life saving appliances, weather and water conditions.
The presence of a safety boat or kayak will always give enhanced safety and security.

Gefahren beim Schwimmen in der Navigation
Schwimmen in der Nähe der Navigationsinfrastruktur Waterways Ireland möchte die Öffentlichkeit über die Gefahren des Schwimmens und Tauchens in und um die Navigationsinfrastruktur wie Brücken, Schleusen, Wehre, Pontons und Hafenanlegestellen informieren. Die Möglichkeit, dass ein Schwimmer von einem Schiff, dessen Propeller oder überfahren wird, ist immer gegeben, wenn ein Motorboot an solchen Stellen manövriert. Daher ist das Schwimmen an diesen Stellen verboten. Eröffnung Schwimmsport Waterways Ireland möchte alle Teilnehmer, die sich mit dem Schwimmen im offenen Wasser beschäftigen, auf die Gefahren hinweisen, die mit dieser Aktivität an Orten verbunden sind, an denen Bootsverkehr herrscht. Ein Schwimmer im Wasser, der eine gut sichtbare Kopfbedeckung trägt, bleibt immer ein sehr kleines Ziel, um den Kapitän eines Motorbootes zu sehen, vor allem wenn:
die Wasseroberfläche ist bewegt
starke Blendung, die von der Wasseroberfläche reflektiert wird
es gibt Schwierigkeiten bei der Sichtung aufgrund der schrägen Sonnen-einstrahlung am frühen Morgen oder späten Abend
schlechte Sicht durch Nebel, Nebel oder Regen
Schwimmer sollten ihren Badeort vor dem Betreten des Wassers, für den Bootsverkehr, Ein- und Ausstiegsorte, Verfügbarkeit von Rettungsmitteln, Wetter- und Wasserverhältnisse bewerten. Das Vorhandensein eines Sicherheitsbootes oder Kajaks gibt immer mehr Sicherheit.
Waterways Ireland wishes to notify owners and masters that water levels in Grand Canal Dock have returned close to normal. The Tall Ships Regatta is visiting Dublin over the June bank holiday weekend with Grand Canal Dock hosting a number of craft during this festival.
With the exception of lock passages scheduled by Waterways Ireland the Sea Lock will remain closed to navigation until after the June Bank holiday weekend.
Waterways Ireland will continue to monitor levels thereafter and over the coming weeks, with the intention of re-opening the Sea Lock for normal use as soon as possible.

Waterways Ireland möchte den Besitzern und Kapitänen mitteilen, dass der Wasserstand im Grand Canal Dock fast wieder normal ist. Die Tall Ships Regatta besucht Dublin über das Feiertagswochenende im Juni mit dem Grand Canal Dock, das während dieses Festivals eine Reihe von Booten beherbergt. Mit Ausnahme der von Waterways Ireland geplanten Schleusenpassagen bleibt die Sea Lock bis nach dem Feiertagswochenende im Juni für die Schifffahrt gesperrt. Waterways Ireland wird danach und in den kommenden Wochen die Pegel weiter überwachen, um die Schleuse so bald wie möglich wieder für den normalen Gebrauch zu öffnen. Waterways Ireland dankt seinen Kunden für ihr anhaltendes Verständnis in dieser Angelegenheit.
