MARINE NOTICE, No.80 of 2014

Lough Ree – Athlone

Coosan Point and Killinure Lough

Aquathon Event Wed 2 July

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that the swimming element of an aquathon event will take place in the vicinity of Coosan Point moorings in Killenure Lough, between 1900 and 2000 hours on Wed 2 July 2014.

The 750m course is set out just south of the moorings and is marked by three large orange buoys. Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when passing the course and to note any advice given by safety boat marshals. NAVIGATION RESTRICTIONS

“WATERWAYS IRELAND TRIATHLONE”

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that navigation restrictions will be in place in Athlone between the Athlone By-pass bridge (M6) and the Athlone Lock, to facilitate the swimming element of this national event.

Athlone Boat Club Regatta

Masters and users of the Shannon Navigation are advised that the Athlone Boat Club rowing regatta will take place on Sat 14th June from 0800 hrs until 1900 hrs, on Killinure Lough.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when in this area to avoid any upset to rowing craft which have only a small amount of freeboard.
Masters are further requested to note any advice given by race marshals when approaching the course.
Laying and removal of the course will take place between 9th and 18th Jun.

Flow Measurements

Waterways Ireland has been advised by the OPW of their intention to take flow measurements from Athlone Town Bridge today Fri 25 Oct and also on Tues 29 Oct.
These measurements will hinder passage through the navigational arch but only for short periods of time. Masters should approach the bridge with due caution and be prepared to delay their passage until the navigation is clear.
Masters are further requested to note any advice or instructions issued by OPW staff involved in the measurement operation. Contact number: 353-(0)868112267.
